Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Appreciation Thread!! - Page 4

Well they are here.  Hope they break in a bit, very bassy and not sure yet.  After a little listening i think they are better than the esw9s that i a/b due mainly to driver size but they sure don't stack up at all to the ed8 that i have been using fairly regularly.  Not that i thought they would.  My biggest bummer is that the carton was partially smashed in when it arrived from Japan and the left ear cup was already scratched from the plastic cover.  At least you guys got to scratch yours on your own.angry_face.gif

Actually you can only see it in the sun or bright light but..........

How's the imaging and tonality? Do they sound natural to your ears? Looking forward to your impressions.

Well the bass seemed to have toned down, not my ears burning in because i use many different headphones.  I like the sound, the presentation is nice.  Don't know how natural, not as natural as my home HP's, but i enjoy them.  A good fall back when i don't want to take my ED8 out but not as balanced a sound.

Thank you for the impressions. Still searching for these but they are indeed hard to find.

Got mine on amazon, $408.  many sellers in that range but the one i chose didn't quite do a good enough wrapping job for international and the box got a little crushed in on one side and scratched that ear cup as shone above, some small scratches from the plastic window that displayed the HP.  I contacted him and was told to make a claim to the post office............yeah right.  At least they sound good.  My esw9 is brighter and not as full sounding, you can tell it has full size cups.  The bass is a little strong for my normal tastes but i adapt to it after a few minutes and they sound good.

Great impressions, it sounds like my kind of sound signature for sure.

Only thing I wish for in these is real leather pads ala ESW10 or ESW10. I'd pay good money for a nice leather pad. Good money.

Agreed, pleather is a bit disappointing considering the price. Also, more isolation would be good. At least to the level of HD25s would be perfect, although I don't really use portables since getting customs. Nothing can compare to their isolation.

For portable audio, isolation is of the most importance to me because what's the point in good audio quality if you can't hear it over the sound of the tube/bus/traffic/wind when out and about.

I'll see if the esw10 pads fit. Got some good stores around that can help with that question.

I doubt they would be big enough.  The esw9 earpads are much smaller than the es10.  I have both.  I am irritated that they didn't use the lambskin as well, it is really my only complain.  I got these instead of the new Senn headphone and am very glad i did.  It only cost $40. more and i think it is in another league above them.

Well, I'll report back on the ESW10 pads. Here's to hope. Soundwise, these are pretty much my favourite headphone, and yes, I've heard the ED8 and T5P, etc. The T5P is another I really like, but you are paying much more essentially for much much better construction, not necessarily better sound. The AT's have taken a number of shortcuts like plastic inner cups, and pleather, and utitising a good, but cheap cable for weight and cost savings. It is amazing, but not what it could be. I'd like to see the same driver in a more bulbous case lined with some damping fabric but having bare titanium or bare wood repelling the sound back to the ear. That and Beyer-quality construction. I have a feeling the cost would go up to T5P in that case. Fine by me as long as the sound quaility is preserved or slightly enhanced. I'm a construction guy, anyway, not a pretty guy.

I will be hearing these for the first time in 45 minutes from now, and buying them, as long as they're not fakes.

Quite excited after shigzeo's comments on... T5p?!!  The only headphone I've used / needed the last year or so.

I'm back, with the ATH-ES10.

It sounds like a mini T5p, with 10% Audio Technica A2000X sound (like accents), and a fairly strong 'Ultrasone' character in it.

It is a pretty basic sounding headphone honestly, but there is some kind of mysterious gem inside.

I never - not once - used my T5p for portable use, $1399 around my neck?  No thanks.  I can see myself using this one every day, hmm... perhaps.

Initial thoughts.

What do you needT5ps for then? If not for portable use, they may be replaced by other headphones that are better.

Soundwise, ES10 does not compare to the sound T5ps provide.

That's why I called them a mini T5p (a lesser T5p).  Anyway I just got the ES10 today, I'm tired, it's noisy outside, so haven't had time to listen deeply yet.
