At night I've been switching  the DAC-2 over to my Flat screen to watch high def TV from my WD Media player.   Then it's back into the setup for more burn in.

I had a car that went past 380K miles.  I think it went to 450K but I don't know the odometer broke at 380K.  Was still running strong when I sold it after 21 years.

Yes.  I had both.  The J River was just easier all around to implement.  Kernel streaming right there etc.  You can do the same w/Foobar but of course have to set up everything.  That can be fun but I just was getting frustrated with the art display etc.  J River was only $50 and that was worth it for me!

Well I'm definitely keeping this DAC.

Anyone using the DAC-2 with a Mac?

Iup. So far, so good.

iMac > W4S DAC2 > Violetric HPA V200 > Amarra Mini > LCD-2

The V200 arrived yesterday, at first i felt a bit disapointed with the lack of power compared to the M^3, but after adjusting the pre-gain settings it's all good L3000.gif

The V200 is the amp I'm going to get to pair up with the DAC-2 and the LCD's.

I've been taking my DAC-2 out of my system at night and using it with my WD HD media player to watch videos with.  When I bring it back into my iMac rig the DAC-2 is causing my Mac to crash.  I get that dark screen telling me to restart the Mac.  Nothing has ever made my iMac crash ever.

I don't think the DAC-2 likes to be attached to the Mac unless the mac is shutdown and then started after the DAC-2 is attached through USB.

What you have to do with the gain settings on the V200?    Fried told me if I went balanced out of the DAC-2 into the V200 I could use the V200 RCA outs into a speaker amp and use it as a preamp.

If you want more power, you only have to increase the Db in pregain, simple.

The only inconvenient of RCA outs, it's that you won't be able to control the volume, Fried also told me that you could connect them to the headphones out.

It does need break in!  It did sound good out of the box (I'm not that much an audio snob)  After 50 (probably more but I've lost count) hours the sound stage has really opened up more.  They say once 100 hours you are pretty good and I think 200 and you are there.  I used to have a Proceed (cheapo version of Mark Levinson) DAC and transport and it took a while to break in as well.

I got silver because my Woo WA22 is silver.  Everyone else I know has Black.

Talking about me? lol this things is a bargain, besting it's that Wyred4sound can do the SACD modification for you, so you can enjoy the SACD on ur DAC

Yes, to echo what others have said about burning in the DAC, it needs it and it's sonic profile shifts around.  I'm at almost 200 hours and in that time the bass went from tight to bloated back to tight again.  There are some harshness issues and I can hear them fade over time.

I have a WA22 which I listen to during the day, and then when I am not listening to it, I hook up my Musical Fidelity X-Can V3 and leave it playing overnight.  I'm also breaking in a Bryston BDA-1 and will be comparing them in about another week.  One of them will be going back.
