Audio Shops in NY/NYC?

Thread Starter

I'm going to be taking a trip to New York this July/August and was wondering if anyone knew of any awesome audio shops I should stop in even just to look around and listen to some cool gear. I'm from Wisconsin so I have no idea what is out in New York so I was wondering if I could get some audio store related guidance and or suggestions.

Also, not sure if this is the right place to put this but couldn't really think of anyone else so here goes.

I'm open to any/all audio shop suggestions, just fire away!

Thanks in advance for any help/advice, I really want to try and make the most out of this trip

Hey Solid Snake, I hope You enjoy Your V.R. when You come to the city! It should be nice and hot for You. A couple of places You can check out are Stereo Exchange 627 Broadway, J&R music world on Park Row, Capital Audio 120 Duane st and Dale Pro Audio 22 west 19 st between 5th& 6th Avenues. Hopefully they something for You and if not they give You another name or two. Also I think You can check the site for the Jacob Javits Center, never know if they are holding a trade show (electronics, auto, etc.). Enjoy the trip, Cheers, Frankie K.

B&H and J&R. The first has a good amount of headphones but on a crappy source. The latter has some earphones (although not sure if you can audition but I've heard people doing so) and some headphones and they let you use your own stuff since it;s on a window display and they have to take it out.

B&H is horrendously loud for listening.

If you can get there, and like speakers, check out Lyric Hi Fi.

B&H has some interesting gear, despite the noise. If you're just going to get an idea of the general frequency response of a headphone it's not bad. A couple weeks ago they had - HD25-1, D7000, HD800, SR60, SR80, M50, among many others. They had a GS1000 but one channel was broken; I don't know if they've fixed that or not.

Yeah Your right about it being noisy, but Aflac is correct in what He's saying and You do come across broken phones now and then which stinks if it's something Your looking at. There are also audio shops in Long Island and New Jersey to check out that a friend mentioned, I'll see if I can get locations, You never know. Snake is going to have time constraints most likely. atsmile.gif
