Not really any reason to either, imo. A resistor sounds just fine to me.
 

 

Anyway, I'm feeling this is getting somewhere (obviously, the outputs are taken straight to the output jack by wires under the pcb), I've even added the desired input caps :

I couldn't help mucking around and drew this...

We can call it the "Cheapskate V2".

I changed the op amp for greater freedom of choice

and moved all the jacks and volume off board, again

for greater flexibility.
