ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT...etc

Anime wise, I have been out of the loop since the bgeinning of this season. Recently I finished Angel Beats. Amazing series with amazing music, to be honest.

@Topic: Why does it not surprise me that Persona protagonists would favor Audio-Technica?

For those who care, in that Persona image, Shin wears his dark-recolored ATH-AD700s backwards, if the cable is any indication; Minato has ATH-EM7 GMs; Hamuko (real name: Persona 3 Female Protagonist, because she currently doesn't have a canonical name) has ATH-EW9s; and Souji is equipped with a pair of ATH-ESW9As that look like they've been recabled.

Also Minato's and Hamuko's clip-ons are canonical, as they have them in-game (although not specifically under the brand name, if memory serves me right).

Y'know what was a good anime that also had a decent OST? Katanagatari.

WRT: Berserk: If you enjoyed Berserk, you should definitely check out Hokuto no Ken (English: Fist of the North Star).

@Topic: So it seems that the Persona protagonists are fans of Audio-Technica.

Uh oh we got some fellow otaku here. Personally, when I saw Madoka put on headphones in the music store in like episode 1 or 2 I was hoping they would be some headphones I'd recognize but alas they were just some generic ones.

That PE picture looks freakin' awesome. I love Audio-Technica even though I no longer own any AT gear. I wish I got to play PE on the PS2 so I'm hoping they make a PS3 release.

Well I'm not sure if all otaku in Japan are audiophiles... I get the impression that some are posers. I've seen some otaku get K701's just because Mio uses one in K-ON!

Also don't generalize otaku has having "no life". Obviously not all otaku are like that and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't think of me as an otaku if you met me in person.

(I'm especially a huge fan of Kajiura's works, both as a composer for anime and as the woman behind the likes of Kalafina [they did all of the vocal endings to the Kara no Kyoukai movies and the opening to Sora no Woto] and FictionJUNCTION.)

Most of the time Kujiura's works can be told by just listening to the starting few notes XD ..but yeah, they do sound really good, engaging and exciting. For Kalafina, I've been paying attention ever since Oblivious (Kara no Kyoukai ED1), the combination of voices is just so beautiful..

Kanno Yoko is the most respectful name to me when it comes to music composer. While maintaining the ultra-high quality, her works can vary so greatly in style to cater for the theme of anime/game/etc.

Persona OSTs are nice too though Meguro Shoji style may not be appreciated by everyone..

..and actually I'm wondering if there is any Sound Horizon fan over here, though this has nothing to do with anime==

Agreed definitely. GITS, Kara no Kyoukai, and Puella Magi have amazing soundtracks.

Don't forget Tanuichi Hideki. (Death Note, Kaiji, Akagi) The composer for Mnemosyne's OST is also a forced to be reckoned with.

You guys might want to stay back on topic though unless you want this thread closed. ;)

You're definitely missing Shiro Sagisu by the way. (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

And why not throw in Akira Yamaoka? (Silent Hill series)

What really bothers me is that she uses her K701s straight out of her Mactop's headphone out. From what I've been told, while this works, it also sounds horrible. And speaking of Mio and her AKGs...

If we're gonna start throwing down names of game music composers, Uematsu Nobuo (every Final Fantasy game up through X, if memory serves me right, plus Lost Odyssey, and also was the man behind The Black Mages) and Shimomura Yoko (mostly for her work with Parasite Eve, not so much Kingdom Hearts) are top of my list.

It definitely would sound bad. iTunes already sounds bad as it is. What more without a good amp or quality DAC?

Those two along with Kaoru Wada are simply fantastic. KH and FF's soundtracks are so good...

Well the FFXIII's soundtrack is pretty damn good too.. I wonder who worked on that.

Didn't like the sound?

Yup.. amped (not optimally, though), decent sound but not really enjoyable to my taste at the time. I was given a good price to buy it second hand but given up after that try.. Oh ya, there was comfy problem with my head too, was expecting the headband to be much thicker and softer

Wonder how the q701 sounds, hmm..

Otaku is a demeaning word in Japan. It may also carry other meanings such as immaturity besides having no life. You don't want to be called an otaku, but what the hey. We can't always be reading newspapers and discussing politics 24/7 tongue.gif   Anime is clearly a guy thing. Most Japanese girls I've met and one of my ex's would watch anime sometimes but it seems mostly for the cutesy factor. If it's not kiddy anime, they don't watch it.

I didn't think the AKG K701s sounded that bad out of my a computer or my Cowon DAP. It still sounds like a K701. Dynamics never change that much from amplification because the majority of them don't actually require that much power in the first place. Amping adds refinement. An excellent source with a good built-in amp is priority IMO. It's a different story with electrostatics though. Electrostats require some major power.

So apparently the other girls of K-ON have decent taste (though AFAIK neither of these images are canonical - they're just fanart):

6fb673c439363ad455c1f26479a6004a.jpg

That is one heckuva holster for her DAP and amp (I'm presuming DAP and amp, of course).

Shures and a Fostex amp? Nice.

Man, browsing Danbooru with the tags "headphone -vocaloid" turns up some surprising (if occasionally NSFW) results. (I turn off the Vocaloids tag because Vocaloids contribute something like 309 pages of results [out of 531].)

That definitely looks like a portable DAP/Amp combo... You can see that beige thing on top of a larger black box with multiple cords. If that isn't a DAP on an amp I don't know what is. And it wouldn't surprise me if these were illustrations done by the creator featured in art books. The quality doesn't seem like fan art, and if it is, they should be hired now, because it looks like it came straight from the anime.

You're underestimating the level of doujin works..
