QED Qunex 2 - where did the bass go?

I've just got my Meridian 506 with a 1m QED Qunex 2 RCA cable.

 

I compared the QED cable with my old ones with my TT and I'm confused. The QED cable should be many times better, at least price wise.

 

To begin the QED removes a veil and the sound is more clear. But at the same time it sounds like the lows and highs are lost/not as prominent. When listening to Crystal Castle II it's to much mids which makes it sound unbalanced.

 

Does the cable need break in or is it just bad synergy?

The only thing you can "break-in" in a cable is how tight the connectors are. It's fully broken-in once it's easier to pull, but you can assume you should reterminate if you can easily spin it around the jack it's connected to.

 

If you meant "burn-in," I personally am not a believer of this one. Like some people say capacitors need about 200hours, like Mundorfs, but as per my experience the sound changed right off the bat and doesn't change anymore past that. I personally can't imagine cables needing burn-in as I can't imagine any changes in its properties aside from wear and tear. Like with the caps above, it can change the sound in some applications, but  whether that is always an improvement there's no hard and fast rule. In other words, price doesn't always determine whether it will sound "better" overall, objectively (flatter response) or subjectively (any response curve you prefer).

I meant burn-in. Read somewhere that the sound would change quite a bit when the cable had been in use for some hundred hours.

 

My first impressions weren't completely true. The bass is still there, tho its quicker ant not as smeared which makes the mids more prominent. It's mostly that I expected "vanilla" since that's what I've always had but now I get chocolate..
