Not convinced by JH5 and JH16 universals - Page 4

I think the question "So that is the best custom out there?" is problematic as it leads to fanboyism, which is a kind of cancer on head-fi. First, read my review of the MG6Pro. Don't miss the third post of the thread, which contains comparisons to other earphones, including the JH16, and some other issues. I've tried to avoid writing a fanboy advertisement like many "reviews" out there, but instead an honest account of what I am hearing, plus a good sense of what I am listening for, so you can make an informed choice based on what you would like to hear.

I read the review and you make it sound so good.  I am condsidering the mg6pro now instead of the JH16, but I have read so many good things about the JH16 and don't want to have any regrets, so I hope you don't mind if I ask several questions.  Is this your first custom, and what else have you heard other than what is in the copmarison post #3?  Which review read like advertisements so I can stay away.  The opening of yours sounds kinda like an advertisement to me with things suchs as "The Future Sonics MG6Pro Ear Monitor is an excellent sounding custom earphone tuned for a supremely natural sound."and "combined with superior soundstage."  Aren't many monitors tuned for natural sound?  And superior soundstage to all other customs?  Thanks.

Just like to tell my experience, I had compared my JH16 custom to a JH16 universal when I had problems with treble and they had it here on our local shop. IMO the sound reproduction of the two was vastly different...my JH16 custom had a deeper bass compared to the universal but the universal had the prominent treble (and was going to a point where the treble was shrieking and sibilant). I know it shouldn't be like that because the demo should replicate the SQ of the JH16, but that's what I heard.

That's why at my first audition of the JH16 Universal, I'm not impressed, I actually preffered SM3 than the JH phones (JH13/16) using Iphone 3GS as DAP, DYI Cryo LOD and Corda XXS.

Then after I got my JH16 customs, they are a lot better than my SM3 technically although I had returned them for refit because of slightly lacking in treble.

Thanks for sharing your insight OP. The Clip and your 256 VBR are both great as long as it is sonically transparent for you, not sure why people are bringing up lossless and questioning your source.

I'm afraid I don't much have much to add to this discussion but I am very curious about how universal-fit customs work. Are they molded to fit all ears somehow? Or do they just have a tip on the nozzle-area?
