Where do you guys get your FLAC music from?

Just wondering. Website(s), stores, etc.

Currawong compiled a list here:  High Res Music Download Sites

I realize you're not asking specifically for high res, but some of those sites also offer downloads in regular CD quality FLAC.

You can also buy the physical CD and rip it to FLAC yourself of course.

I've also bought an album from hdtracks.com - Am I the only one loving their customer service, high quality downloads and nice selection, yet utterly hating their website? It looks and feels like something designed in 1992 with zero attention to usability :(

Me too I have already bought sth from HDTracks one time. Actually, like yesterday I ve bought some FLAC from the Porcupine Tree website or the No Man website and other week the album from Radiohead in wav format. If I want an album quickly I also use AMAzon and buy the CD's in mp3 format.

Through torrents sites but to be fair what I download I buy on vinyl 90% of the time.

To be honest, the best way is to rip CD's or Vinyl yourself, as many of the torrents mentioned above are usually transcoded from lower bitrate rips.  There are exceptions, but for the most part I feel a lot more comfortable with my own cd's and/or vinyl and EAC.  You always get the best results ripping things yourself on good equipment.  There are obviously some places which offer legitimate downloads for money, but what do you do if your hard drive crashes and you don't have the physical media of your favorite track?

Cheers,

Zach

Totally agree. I spent the better part of last night ripping the same cd (Norah Jones - Come Away with me, Limited Edition, Blue Note Records, highest quality recording in the house) over and over again to find the best tool for the job. In the end I settle on Audex. Perfect quality, tag and artwork auto-fetching and embedding.

Oh and I just friggin LOVE buying cds, can't help it. Nothing quite like spending a few hours browsing your local record store. Right now my ears are being treated to the Rolling Stones re-masters from hdtracks.com - The only place I trust as much as my own rips. Not much of a Stones fan but damn I can't help tappin' my feet when I listen to them...
