I have a suggestion for anyone needing an inexpensive or starter amp.  I just installed this mini stereo amp (http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PTA2-2x40W-Stereo-Amplifier/dp/B0013CDZDI/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1300307548&sr=8-8) for a hearing impaired neighbor who will use it for TV listening.  It  has a headphone output that I listened with my Beyer 911T phones and the sound was quite good considering its US $ 50 price. It also has CD and other inputs as well as recording and speaker outs.The case, knobs and especially the headphone jack appear to be good, solid quality. I didn't take the unit apart. But considering  Amazon's 30 day return policy, I think it is worth checking out.
