Hi all
I'm pretty sure this isn't my imagination, but I think I have an issue with the 5.1 virtualisation the mixamp does through Optical (SPIDF).
Basically, on my Xbox, everything works fine with the virtualisaion on through optical - music, games, the lot. On my PC, however it's different.
With the virtualisaion button on (with SPIDF selected as default device through VIA HD Deck), all sound seems to become less clear and shifts to the left ear, compared to being centered before. BUT, if I enable SPIDF through VLC Player or Classic Media Player Home Cinema, it outputs the sound fine as on the Xbox - centralised and clear.
My other issue is that playing games like Unreal Tournament 2k7 is that the same thing happens (although less prominent) - all the higher frequencies seem to come out towards the left ear.
Is there a way of forcing this SPIDF to work properly for everything on my PC like my Xbox? My friend has the mixamp also and he says that the sound appears to be fine for everything on his PC, so I'm wondering if it's a motherboard issue.
I have a Asus P7P55D Evo mobo, no soundcard.
Would a cheap soundcard sort this issue out? Or am I missing something?
