ATH-W1000X mods - Page 3

I made the mod with blue tack except on the third picture (back of the driver). The result is as i thought, very good. They are faster, the bass is tighter and the mids are not so aggressive as before. For Rock & Pop this cans are now great.

I'm planning to buy L3000 Pads for them. Because of comfort and sound. Not that i find them uncomfortable. I think with softer skin they will be unbeatable comfortable. As i read the sound will be better due more airness.

The comfort is truly night and day. I never REALLY had a problem with the pleather pads in comparison to other headphones... but you just can't go back after you try the L3000 leather.

I also hope that sound quality will make a step up especially airness. Can you describe how they change the sound?

I found the bass to be less boomy and the midrange to be more prevalent. Overall, a better mix. I'm not sure I remember them becoming any more airy, but it's been a month or two since I switched back to the RS1.

Just ordered some damping material to try this mod.  Really enjoyed the W1000X at last year's sf head fi meet and hoping to recreate purrin's version of it.

Edit:  $5 worth of Blu-Tack later and the mod really does tighten up the bass and low mids quite a bit.  Drum solos are so much more punchy now.
