when you've spent the last 30mins looking at rhodium/carbon fibre RCA and XLR jacks with the intention of making some more cables.

Any good bookshelf speakers that are active for $300? Looking for something for my Birthday(jeez this hobby) and it would be speakers or a new interconnect and more CD's. Reason for speakers is that I have DT880 + O2/ODAC and to get better sounding headphones I would have to get Hifiman HE-500 or LCD2's.. Now thinking about it.. I could get HE-500 for Christmas if I just ask for money for my birthday.. Decisions.. Would HE-500 be much better then DT880's? You know your an audiophile when this is what your doing..

You would be hard pressed (lol-actually, it's impossible) to find active bookshelf speakers for $300 that sound better than your DT880s-or even close to them. Therefore I'd suggest either waiting for more money from the money tree (hi mom and dad!), the money grove (hi US government!), or the money road (hi job!). Then, get yourself a nice set of LCD2s. I went into speakers before headphones, so I thought I was getting such a great deal based on price/performance. If I went into HPs first, I probably would have been happy with HD650s and a Bottlehead Crack, but that ain't the nature of this game. You know you're an audiophile when you can give heaps of audio advice just when you're 15 from the constant flow of gear through your room (house, for those responsible/old enough)
