Yeahh, melodic.. Then cool Drop

hu?? i dont know many ambient tracks that have a drop and id hardly call feed me melodic but any dubstep/drum and bass song will allmost definitely have a drop. sometimes other genres make use of them, but i dont want to say anything about that because i just dont know =]

Yeah, actually Feed Me is so far the closest thing. Apparently no one makes melodic/ambient music with a huge drop. Idk, I was thinking more contrast= more drop.

As far as EDM, I've personally only just been downloading the podcasts from

Above & Beyond

Kyau & Albert

Norin & Rad

Tokyo Bliss

Jaytech

If Mat Zo had his own consistent podcast I'd subscribe too, and some of the Tokyo Bliss stuff can get a little slow for me, but Nhato appears on that list as does Shingo Nakamura. I can't pin down one song in particular, but these guys always definitely fill my ears with amazing sound!

Etude is really something else. If you haven't heard Shingo Nakamura's Sapporo album, I'd recommend listening to it since you like his music. Also be on the lookout for his next EP which will be released on the 7th of November. If you haven't heard the previews, they can be found here: http://soundcloud.com/otographicmusic/sets/shingo-nakamura-behind-the-sunset-scroll/

Tokyo Bliss is a great source of new music since each contributor tends to select slightly different styles of music. Naturally the artists use a lot of their own music, but since they release stuff on various different labels the episodes are still useful for discovering some of their more obscure tracks.

if your looking for more relaxed music with a drop or two in it, try liquid drum and bass, its a sub-genre thats more relaxed and more... liquid =]. theres a channel on youtube called liquicity wich has some pretty good stuff on it. http://www.youtube.com/user/Liquicity?feature=g-all-u

also theres a more relaxed version (or i guess you could call it a sub genre too) of dubstep called "chillstep" or downtempo dubstep. groups like blackmill or feint. i personally arent such a fan and find that the best chillstep tracks are made by regualr dubstep djs. although, the "oldschool" or "deep" dubstep tends to be on the more relaxed side, or atleast not as loud and agressive. groups like enigma dubz, mt eden... evan skream (his holiness).

edit: hers a link to another youtube channel called MrSuicideSheep. theres some good stuff on there from time to time though theres alot of stuff thats just trash in my humble opinion.

http://www.youtube.com/my_subscriptions?feature=mhee&s=hRC4ruqmqDmyth9krTkZUOlX91nWLN996WzefJ0dli4

another edit: if you post a couple of songs that you like, i could TRY and recommend things that are similar

The first video is the first track from TILT's "The Century EP" which came out last year. The EP is named so because it's the 100th release from the label Lost Language. The second song is by Björn Åkesson whom I discovered through Nhato, although for some people it probably happened the other way round.

While I enjoy electronic music a lot, dubstep isn't among my favourite genres.

This track, however, I quite like: http://soundcloud.com/djmuffler/6a-140-bare-muffler-bloodsport

And this is a pretty awesome mix imho: http://soundcloud.com/djmuffler/muffler-battle-for-cybertron

He's also made pretty decent, mostly liquid dnb (Hospital Records, duh :))

Make it a remix this time:

DT880 was mentioned above, I'm listening to these on a pair of Darths dt880smile.png

The last one is actually a demoscene 64K intro made for a competition, but I really like the music. I've tried looking for something similar and I appreciate any suggestions you might have. I've been recommended some Concord Dawn and Current Value tracks, but they didn't seem quite what I'm looking for. I especially like the "trancey" bit that makes for a nice contrast for the harsher sounds.

Wow, thanks again, very responsive thread here :-) I like the ambient noises used on Liquicity, but the fast DnB isn't really what I want to listen too.

Songs so far that are close:

Cloudburn - by Feed Me

Whiskers - by Feed Me

^^ these two have the best Drop, I like how the Drop sounds like Optimus Prime is playing a crazy Bass guitar solo in space.

Haunt You - by Flux Pavilion

Lines in Wax - by Flux Pavilion

Just Be - by Tiesto

Guilt - by Nero

^^These songs have more of the overall feel that I like, Especially Tiesto - if Tiesto had a laid back song like Just Be with the crazy Drop like I've heard from Feed Me; that would be really cool.

Chiral - by Boxcutter  this song sounds very ambient and chill to me, no drop, but it just sounds good, is it considered Electro House?

Seriously, I was trying out some kind of Dub Step radio station and I wasn't paying attention, I was like, "ehh, sounds like techno."  Then all of a sudden the Bass dropped through the floor with some of the funkiest electronic sounds I had ever heard and I was like, "I'm overwhelmed, that's incredible, what is that?"  So of course, I took to Head-Fi :-)

Only problem is, now I need better headphones.  I've been steadfast only listening to M6P and the new EarPods.  It's probably impossible, but now I feel like I need a vented design like the EarPod - just with even more bass and a much larger soundstage = I love some of the landscapes in electronic music and I don't want to wear over ear.

Note:  Listening to Graduation - by Gemini; awesome, the drop isn't as good as feed me, but the atmospheric feeling is just what the doctor ordered.

One more post so I can have 50 biggrin.gif

Guilt - by Nero

Listened to it again, great female vocals with a heavy Drop.

Blood Red - by Feed Me

This song has a phenomenal Drop.

My World - by Noisia

Interesting, not my favorite.  Kinda cool, seems like it has what would be maybe called a DnB style drop?

Anyway, I think I'm looking for anything that falls between ChillStep, Electro-House, and BroStep; and I really don't like Skrillex.

dont thank me yet, you seem to really be into feed me, i really DONT like him... none the less, lets give it a try. as far as flux pavilion is concerned, you really cant go wrong in my opinion. hes one of my favorite djs and i think theres only like, 2-3 tracks of his that i dont like. go to youtube and type in his name, im sure youll be pleased. ontop of that, theres all the guys from his (is it HIS? im not sure...) record lable "circus records". theyr not as good as he is, but theyre still good: doctor p, roksonix, slum dogz, cookie monsta and some more. theres an album called "circus one" wich is like a "greatest hits" of all these guys together - very recommended.

tiesto is house, i was actually starting to get into house myself but was sidetracked by glitch-hop and studying. some well known names would be armin van buuren, zedd, dash berlin, mat zo, arty, alsso and afrojack. im not familiar with all of them, this is just some artists i was recommended at the time, so i thought id pass it on =]

nero are awsome!

yes gemini did come to mind, i have both "graduation" and "blue". very cool eps

again, not too fond of feed me, heres some other names for you though, id go into youtube, check out 3-4 tracks from each artist and decide for myself.

sub focus - one of the greatest drum and base producers imo, i know your looking for dubstep, but keep in mind drum and bass has wicked drops aswell, and for some reason i was reminded of him when you listed noisia.

spor, delta heavy, emalkay, knife party, modstep, koan sound and south central are often mentioned in the same breath as feed me. not quite my cup of tea, but give it try.

some personal recommendations from my own arsenal:

subscape - i think should fit in with your tastes quite nicely.

arion - doesnt actually have any official releases, but i do like his music.

truth - this is different from all the rest of the artists mentioned here, but they also kinda play on the whole harsh/melodic thing so why the hell not?

zeds dead - explosive duo who create some of the best dubstep available as far as im concerned.

Ok for the guy who wants melodic dubstep sort of stuff here's a good list (I also have one of the first page of the thread).

Nero

Gemini

Meta

Seven Lions

Koven

NumberNin6

Xilent

Chasing Shadows (KillSonik is their new alias, also very good)

Check those guys out to start off, you'll definitely like them, check out some DnB as well. And keep listening to Feed Me.

For adamlr, Smog is a record label, this is the release I was talking about:

http://www.beatport.com/release/perspective/892110

My favorite off the album:

Seriously, reading the thread and knowing what descriptions I'm looking for is helpful.

So yeah, you are both right, Nero and Gemini are both melodic dubstep; but Nero is far better imo.

And I am finding I like house as well, I noticed in the first few pages that Feed Me is listed as Electro-House, but Deadmau5 and Tiesto and such don't use "The Drop" - so I was thinking that maybe Feed Me should be in a sub-category=  Electro-Dubhouse.  I did find some stuff from Swedish House Mafia that had some slight drops; therefore I am looking into Zedd and Knife Party, also going to take the advice on DnB; because I love the Drop.
