My uDAC Could Pose a Terrorist Threat! Please Help Disarm It.

I recently purchased the NuForce uDAC2 USB DAC/Amp to get a better sound from my PC by bypassing the PCs sound card and it most certainly does this. However, whenever I reboot my PC I get a constant ticking sound like the second hand of a clock.

Going to the clock in control panel shows that the movement of the second hand of this clock coincides with the ticking sound. I can minimise this sound (but not totally eradicate it) by disabling the device then re-enabling it and rebooting. However, through my headphones in silent passages I can still hear it.

My observations suggest that this is definitely the cause. How do I disable this clock? Is there another way around this issue?

Some more observations.

In the quietened mode the sound only comes from the right side of my headphones.

When I reboot the next day (after minimising the ticking sound) the sound is OK until I play some form of media file then the ticking becomes instantly noticeable and can be heard above the music/commentary.

I have my 2.1 PC speaker system running through the DAC

The PCs speaker sound has been disabled as this was the only way I could get the DAC to work continuously.

Googling came up with this solution

I opened up the Speakers since that's by default playback, then went to Properties > Sound Levels...

I started playing with each one to see if they made any difference, and well surprisingly when I turned down "Front Pink In" - the ticking sound stopped!

Therefore, if you have a weird ticking sound OR even a weird background 'bzzzzzzzz' try turning the "Front Pink In" down to see if this fixes anything...
but I can't find anyway to do this on my W7 system.

Any help would be appreciated.

This doesn't appear to be an option in W7 (or at least I can't find it).

go to the recording devices section in the windows sound menu and disable everything you aren't using.

I've already done that.
