AUSTIN Meet - April 16, 2011 (3-6PM at Whetstone Audio) - Page 5

Whatever works. I'll be bringing mine in my backpack 'just in case' as well. It pretty much comes with me all the time anyway. I really wish I'd have my D100 by then to try with some of these cans because that's the DAC I plan on getting (and then later an Asgard or A100). I'm sure I'll enjoy them no matter what they're hooked up to. Honestly I want to try the ESW9 on my portable rig because that's probably how I'd use them. I actually need them for a costume later on this year (totally an excuse to buy a pair).

I'm really stuck on what to do about a source.  All my lovingly-collected FLACs are on my laptop and the only other sources I have are my Samsung Captivate and an iPad; neither of which I can use with my Emu 0404 DAC.  Although I am excited about showing off what the digizoid ZO can do from a portable source and MP3s.  I also have a Sony SCD-CE595 but my SACD collection is pitifully small and the player itself is bigger than the laptop so can't really see much use in bringing that as an alternative.

I was thinking ~If~ it's alright with the organizer, I might go ahead and bring my laptop and just keep it in its backpack if it becomes clear there just won't be enough space.  Or perhaps we can work out a trade?  Since our friend the owner seems to enjoy a healthy libation or two, and I happen to be a bit of a single-malt scotch lover, I'll promise to bring a bottle of something nice for his shop (Mayhaps Talisker, Lagavulin, Glenlivet 15, etc) and for the attendees to enjoy, and in exchange we maybe try to squeeze out a little room for my laptop. :)  I promise not to bring a mouse, just the power supply, if that helps.

So what's the head count? I just want to make sure I'm prepared.  Sounds like it's going to be pretty fun.  Can't wait to learn more about the Head Fi cult.  Headphone gear is pretty new to me.

About the partying, just be careful!  I love to party! Let's NOT make this into a boring Audiophool sausage party!  We're TEXANS DAMMIT! Try to keep your drink outside and not sitting on top of any gear or I'll freak.  I'll try to set up an outdoor table. I hope the weather is nice.  I'm looking forward to meeting Y'all.

We have about 20 people at the moment.

Oh god no. One thing you'll learn about the Head-Fi cult is we're all like parents with our gear. I don't think anyone in their right mind would set a drink on top of anything expensive. Haha.

I would vote for outside to be maybe...portable gear set-up and drinking? Inside could be the more careful, bigger gear set up. Just a thought.

I might not be able to come, really working on it at the moment but school/work/life might get in the way.

Just a heads up for anyone wanting to hear my gear.

I am going to do my level-best to make it there, I have some friends in Austin I really want to see also but it just might not happen.

I'm definitely on board with the outside portable setup table/beverage area.  Might as well demo the portable rigs in their normal environment  :).

I'll probably end up just bringing a netbook for my two bigger rigs to attempt to use up as little space as possible, but even my macbook is smaller than the amp/dac I'm bringing so I doubt it'll matter a whole lot.

I say bring the laptops, if they take up too much space we'll stack em off to the side in their bags.  Even a huge laptop will take up less space than a full-size cd-player or turntable.

I'm just hoping I manage to leave Whetstone without buying an analog rig or new speakers.  :)

EDIT:  I'll also have a non contributing friend joining and I'll throw my KSC-35s in the bag as well.

I will have a set for Saturday.

Dr. Cavalli gained notoriety with his first DIY amplifier projects. His success has blossomed into Cavalli Audio, a world leader in amplifier design.

Yeah. I'm pretty excited at this as well. Not buying a pair anytime soon, but I still want to hear what all the fuss is about.

Guys, you are pretty lucky - not only is the LCD-2 a killer, but you are getting to hear one of the best amps to drive them. This combo was quite a hit at CanJam last year.

Doubtful that I can make this, but will certainly try. If so, it will be last minute, and out the door by 6.

Figures, LCD-2's gonna be there and it looks like the last nail was just placed in my trip-coffin.

Not going to be able to make it.

Have fun guys!

Damn, I wish I had known about this sooner, I'm in Dallas and would have GLADLY driven out to austin for this.  I guess I'll have to wait for the next one.  :(

If I were you, I wouldn't wait for the next one considering that there hasn't been one for at least the time that I've joined Head-fi (2007).
