OK, if it's open ended I'll bring a couple of good six packs... good beer is another of my hobbies.  Drinking a Victory Hop Wallop at the moment.  Nice night cap.

 

I read through his blog and it definitely seems like alcohol is a normal staple at his shop.  Good bourbon is mentioned several times, and many pics of him with beer.  Seems like an interesting place to hang out regardless.

I don't want to throw a wet blanket here, and I am a meat-eating, gun-toting true son of Texas who likes a cold beer as much as anyone, but I'm not sure that drinking during the meet is a good idea.  If the property owner and the attendees want to enjoy a few cold ones that's fine and I'll likely join in myself, but I just think it may be better to have that as an "after-the-meet" thing.  There are going to be people there that want a quiet/sober room to do some critical listening not to mention that with expensive electronics all over the room, keeping accidents to a minimum should be considered. A bunch of open liquid containers could potentially be a hazard.

 

 

Just a thought :)

First I just want to say that expecting a quiet room to do critical listening is an extremely unrealistic thing to expect at a meet unless there is a spare room, people are going to be talking, just how it is...

Second, there is a huge difference between drinking and getting drunk, I don't think anyone was suggesting shotgunning a 6pack of tallboys when you first get there. I'd expect everyone at an event like this would respect where they were and not just get totally wasted.

 

As for accidents, people would be just as likely to bump into something and knock it over as they would be to accidentally spill a drink, even completely sober. I don't see how any of it would be an issue as long as people were careful and didn't do anything stupid.

 

Honestly though, I'm okay with or without drinks, I just don't really see how it could cause any real issues as long as people were aware of their surroundings.

Hopefully people will be meeting, talking, and hanging out as much as quietly walking around listening to stuff.  I'm sure everyone will be respectful and relatively quiet, but there will be a lot of people with similar interests in the same place.  Expect some talking.

You'll notice the picture of the booze at the bottom of the page.  I'm sure someone who has drinks that prominently displayed as well as very expensive equipment in his shop will know the risks better than I. 

 

And yeah I'm not talking about chugging down a six pack of IPAs, I'm talking about having a couple of very good beers to go with the listening of very good music and equipment.

Hopefully we can talk about getting other people to come instead of whether or not we should have any alcohol. Nobody is forcing anybody to drink and this was at the request of the store owner. If you are willing to open up your place then go ahead and do so and we'll respect what you want to do. However, considering that it's incredibly difficult to find a place in Austin to have a meet, we should be thankful that that is Brian's only request. So let's just talk about how we can get other people to come so we can get a more diverse set of equipment.

OH YES. I've been wanting an Austin meet for awhile now.

I love my E7, but I want to pick up and Arrow for the upgrade and size reduction, and then just leave my E7 in my E9 for the DAC.

At a smaller meet like this quiet can certainly happen, so don't just write it off that all meets are loud.

I'm from Dallas but would certainly love to attend if schedule permits.  I'll look into it and respond back if I can RSVP for certain.   If I'm able to attend I'll bring everything listed as current in my sig.  At the moment my primary source is my 17" Asus G73 laptop&foobar with Emu 0404 USB and I noticed the "no 17" laptops" request so I'll just have to figure something else out.  :D

Please come. I am dieing to try your ESW9s. I was considering them as my next headphone.

 

Also, yeah...The NO 17" Laptops threw me off too. I don't have another source that's portable.
