What to do with an iPod Touch with broken headphone jack?

So about a year ago I broke the headphone jack of my 2nd Gen iPod Touch and now sound only comes out of one side unless I push and hold the headphones in a certain position. Now, I can give the Touch to Apple and get the same Touch refurbed for $100, or give it to them and trade it for 15% towards a different iPod. I was thinking about selling the iPod Touch as is or getting the refurb and then selling that. I was also considering getting a Fiio E7 so I can still use my iPod Touch (and also getting an E9).

So, what should I do with a 2nd gen 16GB iPod Touch with a broken headphone jack?

You could of course just get a slim amp and a low profile LOD.

Another solution I've found recently that seems to work pretty well is using a SendStation pocketdock to sidestep the headphone jack. Then I use an app called EQu to tweak the EQ and also adjust the volume. Seems to work pretty efficiently and only adds the size of the sendstation to the mix ( it's about the size of a cheeze-it), while sounding noticeably better. I much rather prefer to use that than lug around my iBasso. It also costs a lot less than the amp route.

Well, I need a DAC for my computer anyways so I want to get the E7, and that SendStation looks good but at a third of the price of the E7, I'd rather get the E7. My only problem with the E7 is the rubberband that holds it to the DAP: if I was using any other DAP it wouldn't be much of a problem, but the rubberband seems like it'll get in the way of the touch screen,

Is this for on the go or at home?  Did you like the Touch before the headout broke?

This is for on the go. I like the iPod touch because I can use it to browse the web while I'm on campus and the apps are good to keep me busy. But yea, I need to get a DAC for when I'm at home and the E7 seems like it'll take care of my DAC problem and my broken iPod problem. Just wondering, what will a 2nd Gen 16GB iPod Touch sell for on here? I'm guessing the broken headphone jack wouldn't be a problem to most people here since they would most likely buy a LOD anyways.

For at home the line-out is great.  For on the go, line-out w/ portable amp is another solution.  I listen to my Touch w/ both headout and LOD w/ amp.  I don't understand about the DAC part w/ the Touch.  You mean a headphone amp via line-out when you're at home.  The line-out bypasses the internal amp.

Well, from my understanding, the Fiio E7 is both a DAC and a headphone amp. When I'm on the go, I'd use a LOD on the iPod Touch and have it go into the E7 which acts as an amp. When I get home, I plug the E7 into the E9 and the E7 is used as a DAC while the E9 is the amp.

Correct...But just remember, the line-out to amp bypasses the internal amp of the Touch.  To bypass the DAC you need another device (Onkyo, Wadia, Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo etc.....).

I use LODs all the time, but I am just bypassing the amp (analog).  For the price, to ME, it's not worth the trouble to bypass the DAC.  I'm getting great sound from the line-out to various amps.

The EDIT really sucks on this new site.  Can't get rid of that last line......Take us back to where we were before...So much easier head-fi.

Do I have to bypass the DAC? I can't just use the E7 with the Touch and connect my headphones to the E7?

Absolutely...As long as you use the amp.  I'm not familiar with the Fiio amp/DAC.  I know they have a 7 and a 9 and 5.  Some are amps, some are DACs.  I'm just not sure which is which.

You can bypass the internal amp via line out and connect to any amp of your choice.  Then plug headphones into amp.
