Portable Player WIth a Bypassable DAC

Thread Starter

I have a iBasso D4 Mamba, and I'm looking for a portable music player that I can use my DAC with , or should I consider a player with a high end DAC and amp instead?

I've been reading about using the iPad with the camera connector kit, and was wondering if the first generation one (that's currently on sale) still works and if it sounds good.

(Headphones are AKG 701 and Head-Direct RE0 buds)

BriBri,

You might want to check out the Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Solo. It will bypass the DAC in all newer ipods, ipads, iPhone and iTouch.

Thanks

Ken

You'll need to upgrade to an ibasso with optical or coxial input. Otherwise not much else but the ipad. maybe some small linux based computer

I suggest you take a look at the cowon v5, cowon d3 and the iriver h120

Doesn't the Mamba have only USB input? You'd have to get the D10, D12 or DB1 first; I don't know of any portable device that can output digital signal via USB (they're usually just for file transfers and charging.) Then you can take a look at, say, the upcoming Fiio X3.
