imod 5.0G and 5.5G VS. Everything Else

How would you guys say the imod 5 and 5.5 G compare to other portable source components? Would it be worth it to buy these older ipods and then have them modded? Of course I was thinking that if I ever did this I would definitely Rockbox my imod. I'm not asking about the 4G because they are somewhat inferior to the 5 and 5.5 G. 

 

I think it's really, really lame that Apple put an inferior sounding DAC into the 6G ipods. Anyone know much about the DACs in the Touch?

Interesting. Does it always have to be carried around with that external device attached? With a portable amp that could be pretty bulky.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the Hifi Man not have a custom EQ? I don't believe it is Rockboxable either. Personally, if it can't in someway or another have an EQ it's not worth the money.

I think it has an EQ.  There's a youtube video someone did on the 801 user interface and he shows EQ settings.
