I'm a noobie, and need help buying speakers!

I'm new to this audiophile thing, and need some advice on what speakers I should buy. I'll be using them with my computer mainly for music, games, and movies. I listen to a wide range of music like hip-hop, rap, alternative rock, pop, and etc so great bass would be preferred. I'm about to order some Audio Technica ATH-M50s (as soon as I find a decent price) so something comparable to that sound they would be nice. I prefer bookshelf speakers because they seem easier to set up, but I'm open to suggestions. I have a budget of about $150.

Also, a really nooby question, do speakers require amps?

You should ask your question on a forum that's more speaker oriented, I believe you'll get a more thorough response. And yes, you will need an amplifier.

Audioengine A2s. Just a hint over your budget, really wonderful from what I've heard.
