come on it's 2011 already where are these SD4.0 2 tetrabyte cards i want to stick em in to a sansa clip.

who are these retards that artificially limited cap to 32 gb by the SD2.0 specification , they should be shot.

SDXC

The Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC) format was unveiled at CES 2009 (January 7–10, 2009). The maximum capacity defined for SDXC cards is 2 TB (2048 GB). The older SDHC cards also have a maximum capacity of 2 TB based on the card data structures, but this is artificially limited to 32 GB by the SD 2.0 specification. The first SDXCs being released are governed by an SD 3.0 specification (which also still specifies FAT32 and thus lower capacities), whereas higher capacity and faster SDXCs are expected to follow an SD 4.0 specification, which was due to be released in spring of 2010.[41]

The maximum transfer rate of SDXCs which follow the SD 3.0 specification was announced as 832 Mbit/s (these are called UHS104 speeds[41]), with plans that the SD 4.0 specification shall increase this to 2.4 Gbit/s.

You mean these ? http://kakaku.com/search_results/SDXC/?category=0003%2C0024

This is just an example and you can probably find most of these models outside Japan. But in any case, what are you gonna do without the player that supports it ?

so there is no such thing as a larger-than-64gigabyte card on the market,

and even if there is, they can't be used with card-based players such as sansa?

i don't understand why? they are all SD cards formated FAT

They're not using the same MBR, so most of the actual PMP won't be able to read the SDXC. However, as Nywytboy mentioned, the 64Gb cards can be modified to work on actual players. That won't be the case in the future though.

What exactly do you mean by software based sd cards?

Future higher spec'd SDXC cards will have an extra pin so forget about backward compatible past 64gb.  The market for SDXC right now is in photo not audio.  It'll be another year or two before you see 1-2TB.

So what you really meant in more understandable terms is that 64GB SDXC cards size is limited through software implementation, while bigger capacities will have a different form factor, effectively eliminating any hope for backward compatibility.

@zzzed: It's all in their best interest to push small updates to their product line up, which by itself could be understandable IF they at least warranted some sort of compatibility across several device generations IMO. It's the same crap when new processors are launched and the corresponding motherboard chipsets have evolved next to nothing. Greedy SOBs mad.gif
