Sub $200 amp+DAC (or at least an amp)

Thread Starter

I have a pair of Grado SR80i's right now and I'm probably going to upgrade to the HD600s before the end of the year

I don't currently have an amp or DAC and am looking to get a setup of some sort in the sub $200 range.

I want to get the amp/dac before i upgrade to the senheisers so it should be good to use with the sr80s as well as the hd600s

Recommend away!

That's a difficult question. Those headphones are very different- SR60 are bright, have low impedance and minimal amplification needs while HD600 are warm, have high impedance and really improve with an amp.  Imo the best for the former is a warmer or nos dac and a transformer coupled tube amp made to deliver relatively more current while the latter needs a neutral dac & neutral SS amp that delivers relatively high voltage.  So imo no single amp can work best with both.  I'd hold off for something that suits the HD600.
