How to convert balanced XLR's back to a single unbalanced TRS?

Can anyone help?

 

I have bought a pair of Beyer headphones previously re-cabled for balanced use and now want to use these with a regular unbalanced 1/4 inch TRS plug.  The cable is Cardas star quad and previously had green and white for the right driver and red and black for the left, with half of the metal shield sent to each channel.

 

Can anyone provide any guidance on what I need to do to re-terminate these to the TRS?

 

Is it as simple as soldering the green and white together at the plug for the right driver, red and black together for left and re-join the shield and solder this to ground?

Tie the grounds together.

Assume I'm a complete beginner - do you mean the metal shield when you say grounds?
Can I twist the White/green pair together and treat this as a single cable? Same for black/red?

Look at the XLRs, find which of the wires went to which pins (pin 2 is +, pin 3 is -), wire the + (signal) to the Tip (left) and Ring (right) of the TRS, tie both of the - (ground) wires together and connect them to the Sleeve of the TRS.

Many thanks - this is a big help.

 

I have taken the snipped XLR's apart.

 

The Left XLR has:

Pin 1 - Shield

Pin 2 - Red

Pin 3 - Black

 

The Right XLR has:

 

Pin 1 - Shield

Pin 2 - White

Pin 3 - Green

 
At the TRS, I have connected:
 
Tip - Red
Ring - White
Shield - Black and Green
And the cable shield not connected to anything.
 
All working perfectly now.
