DAC + AMP + SPEAKERS = $750?

I'm relatively new to this scene so I'm a bit green when it comes the technical bits.  That being said I'm in the market to purchase a DAC/AMP combo plus monitor speakers for
< $750 (CAD).

I'll be using it solely for music production & listening (all sorts).  My only restrictions are that I use both a Mac and a PC simultaneously, so the easier I can switch between the two the better.  Also, I'm partial to a brighter, and yet heavier sound, so the speakers should be able to carry a fairly low end.

Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated!!

My KRK Rokit 8 G2 + Lexicon I-onix u22 USB interface = ~$750 USD. Not sure of the conversion rate, but these babies really do the trick. Reviews for the monitors are incredibly positive for the price point. The interface was said to have only a few driver issues with mac and pc (and it was said to not have an off switch, which mine does) I had to get the 64bit win7 drivers from the website as they did not come in the provided cd. It did come with a great vst reverb and cubase LE with a drum sampler (wish it worked for Ableton).

Note, you will have to buy cables to connect the two. I'm using 2 unbalanced 10' trs (instrument) cables at ~$9 a piece. and the monitors are generally sold single for ~$249 so make sure you know whether you're getting a pair or a single when you order ANY studio monitors.

What sort of production are you into?

Price wise, what alternatives are there to the KRK Rokit 8 G2's? They seem do have a dedicated following, although I'm not too found of the yellow cone, demands too much attention imo confused_face.gif

After a lot of research I ended up with the Rp8s because I read from a few different places that they are the best for the money, as well as the devoted following spouting reviews with very little criticism. I'm absolutely positive that they do not stand up to monitors in the "pro" price bracket, but they (according to some) stand up to monitors hundreds of dollars more expensive. The cone grew on me and I find that any audio equipment that's over $100 is going to call attention to itself from a layman, anyway; so it's really not a big deal to have the cones from my perspective.

Prodipe Pro 8 , there almost exactly the same as the KRK Rokit 8 G2 , they almost sound exactly the same aswell just the prodipe's have better midrange and slightly less boosted bass and smoother highs.

Update:  I ended up getting the Lexicon u22 because it was randomly on sale and it appears to do the trick just perfectly.  Also, I picked up the KRK Rokit 5 G2... This is something I'm regretting a bit so I may be taking them back to pick up the 8's instead (they weren't in stock at the time).  Coming from the Logitech Z5500's previously I'm really missing the bass response I had with the subwoofer prior to the switch. This leads to two questions:

1) Is there an audible difference between the Rokit 5 and the Rokit 8? Or is it simply just a bigger woofer?

2) Or would it be better to stick with the Rokit 5's and pickup the Rokit 10s?

Thanks mates :)
