Music similar to Rush? - Page 2

The prog tendencies of the Mars Volta and obvious similarities between vocalists make the two bands "similar".  Absolutely not duplicates or copy cats, but they definitely share enough qualities for me to rec them to a rush fan asking for recs. BTW what is your fave TMV album?

"Deloused" is my favorite TMV record. And while I don't disagree with what you said above, there isn't anything Rush ever recorded that is nearly as chaotic as the majority of TMV. I like it, but not everyone can handle it.

Dream Theater is a great progressive band.  More metal than Rush, but you may like them.  They have a diverse sound.  I might suggest Metroplolis Pt II as a starting album.

I'd like to suggest you maybe even give "Tool" a try.

 

They're definitely heavier than most Rush and I would classify them as more "progressive metal" but the musicianship, like Rush, is excellent.

I'd suggest either "Lateralus" or "10,000 Days" to try them out.  Their first 2 albums are heavier IMO and not as refined as their last 2 efforts.

 

Another band worth checking out is "A Perfect Circle", with the same lead singer as Tool.  Try "Mer de Noms" or "Thirteenth Step".
