Just got my Smyth Research Realiser calibrated. Holy. Crap. - Page 2

I know the digital out can be used for capturing audio, but it does sound like it may be a hassle trying to sync it with video. I don't really know anything about video editing, so maybe it is easier than I would imagine. You could also use a Victor/JVC SU-DH1 while traveling. I suppose not with an ipod, but with a laptop. I am using the Victor at home until I buy the Realiser.

For those who have had it calibrated. Where is the best place to get it done. I live in New Orleans. I am going to talk to some people around here, but don't expect to find anywhere amazing to do it in the area. I assume I will have to take a day trip to another city. I don't see a point in buying it and using the stock measurements, or using a sub par studio/theater. If I am going to spend the money, it needs to sound the best possible.

Anyone use Bob Ludwig's studio in Main?

Just to point out, the SR-202 has to have a special amp, so if you didn't buy the Stax it's more like 700 some dollars off.

Hello

I was really astonished reading your comments.

The Smyth realiser A8 is the best audio system for Headphones you can get on the market.

If you want to listen in old fashined stereo -- in your head-- and not spacial, stay with your old system.

If you love space and excellent audio qulaity then there is no way around the Smyth.

It is simple unbeatable if correctly calibrated with your ears and in a good studio.

greetings

I got in touch with them. At this point they won't allow use of their studio as they are very busy. I got a very prompt and courteous response though.

I guess I'm in a perverse enough mood to suggest using the Smyth Realizer to tune your speaker set-up to mimick what you get out of your nice high-end tubed headphone amp setup ;-)

At least it is open about its 'audio trickery' and that is the point of it. I lust after one as to get a massive soundstage with headphones on would be perfect for me in my listening environment.

Are there any cheaper alternatives?

What are some of the set ups being run with this?  I know the digital input is only run with HDMI and if it were run by a laptop can the MACbook pro run it through the display port to HDMI?  The older ones don't have audio but the newer ones do.

Can anyone help with this?

huh?  You can search and I think you can read it on this thread.  Its 3k + for the realizer as well as it comes with a stax ear speaker.

The HDMI input on the Realiser only takes LPCM, so if your laptop can output that it should work. I use my Mac mini as a media server buy have found no way to have it decode DD/DTS to LPCM. If you are outputting WAV files, which I believe are PCM, then you are OK.

If you are having trouble getting a response in this thread you may want to make your future posts in the other Realiser thread.

Thanks Trubrew.  Sillysally was also helping me with this through PM.  It be safer using something like the dac1 or 2 with the realizer which is a little out of my budget.

The underlying tech sounds very impressive, but I'm not so sure about the implementation. According to Smyth the headtracker unit only lasts 3 hours on a charge.

I am also a LCD-2 user with Smyth Research Realiser A8. The Realiser is the most amazing audio product I have ever had!(And I am an old man)!.  It is so good that I feel the urge to put up something to share my experience.  I live in Shanghai so I started writing something in Chinese for reaching out the locals first, which has almost no knowlege of it. I am working on to translate my stroy back to English, so bear with me.

So if anyone read Chinese here, check out http://blog.sina.com.cn/jbl375  I dedicate that ot he A8.
