Skullcandy Mixmaster Mike( Worth it?)

The safest and probably easiest answer is: 99% that they're probably pure, unadulterated CRAP.

Are you asking if they're good so you can get a pair, and if so, what's your budget so we can possibly help you buy something that's actually good.

Well for that much money, I'd skip on ANYTHING Skullcandy, Beats, or Bose.

What kind of music does he mainly listen to? Does he want epic bass, a general balance, what?

Also, I assume he wants to get something to show off outside, so I'm sure he'll want something easy to drive as well.

edit: Sorry, the Mix Master Mike seems to be like a SERIOUS attempt my Skullcandy. They might actually be good, however, Skullcandy isn't well received here on Head-fi. If your friend were serious about those, he'd be one of the first to try them. Lots of people will be quick to put them down without hearing them, but that's usually because almost all Skullcandy products lack in sound, build, and everything else in general. The RocNation Aviator is one of the first to truly give Skullcandy some credibility, and it looks like the Mix Master Mikes may be even better. Just beware of the impending mob...

The sony MDR-7506 have a pretty flat frequency response curve, if that's waht your'e after. I think they're pretty sharp-looking headphones, too.

As far as looking and sounding decent, I highly recommend the Audio Technica ATH-AD900 headphones. I think they look excellent, and sound very nice. They are under $300 shipped.

I just gave the MMM headphones a listen to at a trade show and I have to say I was mildly surprised.

It was definitely a great headphone for DJ's or anyone listening to electronica/house/trance etc. The bass was deep but pleasantly defined with a snappy upper end. Mids were solid and the highs were very well pronounced.

Don't get me wrong, this is not the type of headphone I would like at all for my purposes. It was very in your face at all levels, fatiguing me very quickly. The snap of the upper bass and highs were so tight that it wore on my eardrums.

I prefer warmer more laid back sound. But, like I said earlier, if anyone likes the music mentioned above, they would surely like these headphones.

The ATH-A900's would probably be the way to go. Judging by the fact that he considered Skullcandy he wants something a little bit heavier in the bass department than an openbacked could give him. On Amazon, you can get a great price for them.

Phiaton MS400s anyone?

I personally don't own them, but have heard them, and I'd say they are a bit more bass heavy than the M50s. They look dam sexy though

AIAIAI TMA-1 is sexy + function as well with a heavy bass focus.

The MS 400 felt a little loose to me when I tried them. Albeit great sounding.

ah, even since I've heard of the TMAs I've wanted to try them out. The black matte finish looks beautiful, and I assume they sound as good as they look~

My friend had cotton shoved underneath the MS400 pads, so those helped with comfort and fit

They sound as dark as they look. lol

They're amazing for EDM, but I sold them because they weren't too practical for anything outside of bass centric music without some serious EQing.

Absolutely amazinf for EDM though. Just...Wow...

And SUPER easy to drive.

Yea I'm more of a treble head than a bass head. I do own the M50s, but I honestly don't feel like the bass is that strong (I do have some of the holes behind the pads taped though). I feel that they are more of an all-rounder, and a very good way to start your head-fi experiance^^

actually,Jude said it was good when he was at CES, and he has like, 8000+ posts so you can trust he's an  expert.

Biggest thing is this. Beats and Skullcandy are 'good' for some things. Its the price/sound quality ratio that gets borked here.

They're $300, and sound like $100. That's the problem people have with headphones like Skullcandy and Beats.
