I want to try one. Big difference biggrin.gif . No way I'll be paying $600 for this... Pretty sure I'll be disappointed as well, since the signs are already there. Plus this will likely go very badly with my 'give a negative review first, then sell' practice ... Couldn't even sell MD11 for $200. The prospect of not selling a MD30 if it's PoS for $300 is...yea...

Way to go - I just crossed your Yulong off my list :)

Don't really understand why, but sure. I'm not a huge fan of D100, but most people seem to think it's fantastic value (and it is). Just depends what things about it you can live with and what things annoy YOU in a major way.
I'm tempted to say D100 will be better than MD30... (not on specs, but less of a PoS and cheaper. But again, WRT to specs and measurements - see above, they're not very meaningful and mostly misleading)

If you want to take one for the team with MD30, who are we to stop you biggrin.gif ? (at least re-read the topic again before you commit to anything. Not like there's a shop that ships internationally that sells MD30 yet).

Commit to anything ? There are about a thousand pieces of kit I'd like to audition before I go anywhere near anything from Musiland. Even Yulong has a considerably better reputation overall, but Zhaolu are more my idea of good Chinese audio. For all I know, its all made in a single factory in Shenzhen, to different specifications and QC standards.

=( awww, you're not taking one for the team biggrin.gif ... My mistake.
AFAIK, Zhaolu is distributed by COEM audio in Aus, and they seem to be ok to deal with.
Allegedly COEM also stopped dealing with musiland after they provided several bad batches of US 01 and then made it very hard to recover the money for COEM (if they ever did recover it).

Well may be smily_headphones1.gif

Yeah, I bought the MD10 from Coem. They seem to sell a lot of the Chinese gear that is *not* reviewed anywhere on Head-Fi (or anywhere else), so I havent been back.

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/500181/musiland-md11-to-be-released/60#post_7424276 f.... it just keeps getting better and better every time I measure something on my MD11 lol... Turns out the DC offset on HP out is about 150mv biggrin.gif... I don't know what musilol was thinking, but *bleugh*....

wow... lol, a routine search for headphone related things on ebay revealed ebay sellers have MD30 for 750 and 850 respectively... so much for $600 RRP biggrin.gif.

the horror biggrin.gif going from ridiculously priced to preposterous.

Dude, its crap - I dont know why you are spending valuable time looking at prices. Just ignore anything from Musiland and life will be simpler.

about once a month I go to ebay and do this and this (the first usually pulls up most amps and HP, the second all the usb DACs biggrin.gif) musilol just happened to come up on page 4 of my search for a new pair of closed HP suitable for classical music biggrin.gif

new soomal evaluation is out: http://www.soomal.com/doc/10100002153.htm

Compared with the previous test scores, MD30 LineOut under the new firmware and objective data before the output unchanged, intact, and two headphone output level of distortion has been greatly improved. In the separation area, MD30 only in headphone output [HP Out] 2 port on the high-frequency part of the little deterioration, in LineOut and HP1 Out on an excellent performance. From the frequency sweep analysis, consistent with the RMAA test results, even on a small map you can clearly see the output in the next harmonic HP1 smaller, better separation performance. So MD30 headphone output performance compared with the amp which is better?

For some reason HP out 2 (low impedance cans) has weird channel sep issues, but distortion problems were fixed on HP 1 with the new firmware which is good... (if anyone thought HP out 2 sounded weird - you were right biggrin.gif ) http://www.soomal.com/images/doc/20110626/00011718_01.jpg (drop to about 80db at 20khz from about 96db.

Maybe musilol can get it right with firmware and drivers set 3.0 biggrin.gif

I'd also like to draw attention to soomal's quoted table figures lol... If the graph clearly shows problems, why do they still state 97db separation for HP2... WTF. (same goes to the usual spike around 50hz, which I presume is a measurement problem because of AC power, but still not clear what the bass performance is)

Oh, there's also a diagram of what the blocks inside do. (FPGA, usb, digital receiver, usb and the dac) http://www.soomal.com/images/doc/20110625/00011698_01.jpg ... Interestingly enough it still reclocks the USB via the fifo buffer despite receiving in bulk mode... That makes me confused.

ps the final problem so far is a 200mv ground to neutral DC offset on XLR out.
doesn't affect my use of it, but the people in the DIY thread relating to DC offset said it could be a problem for some devices. (still not as bad as MD11's offset active to grnd). I didn't find any DC offset on HP out or line out for MD30 (caps in line according to musiland)

oh by the way, musiland semi-promised a new EQ system. mu-dsp, instead of mu-bass. Presumably it's an EQ (stock winamp type, doubt it's parametric), out in the next release, and maybe they'll fix up the HP out channel separation problem if it's not a hardware design issue.

The Yulong D100 sounds fantastic though! I use it, and its neutral and transparent.

MD30 on the chinese headphone sites said that the DAC was very very good. (Nothing was said about the firmware)

I still don't trust musiland anyways, since even the chinese headphone sites rated its previous products badly on usability

Not a fan of D100, to me it sounded too bright on HP out, plus I sold mine after it broke and I got a replacement unit. (quite a few fail it seems judging by the D100 thread)

I really don't see why Musiland couldn't use a voltmeter on the XLR out, and run RMAA measurements on HP1/2 with a couple of different loads connected to them, + RMMA on line out/XLR and notice there are problems/fix them, as opposed to releasing 2 consecutive models with DC offset issues (different ones, but still), hardware design problems (noise issues with low impedance HP on both MD11 and MD30 HP1, stereo separation on MD30's low impedance jack) and firmware problems... The funniest thing is, people come and complain about those issues to the musiland BBS, and customer support can't really tell them anything reassuring... (at least if they're in China they can go back to the physical shop and return it)

Here's the review. http://www.head-fi.org/products/musiland-md30-musilands-new-dac-amp/reviews/5429

Typical Musiland, people opened their DACs in the Chinese forum and found their pcb board to be all dirty and stuff...not very reassuring of their work

The D100 used as a DAC is transparent and neutral, just don't use the headphone outs.
