Hi all. I'm in the market for some decent furniture in the Chicago area.. any recommendations? I have some cheap stuff (i.e., IKEA, Wicke's Furniture, etc.) and it all seems to break after a couple years. Specifically, I'm looking for a nice sectional sofa, leather would be nice but not 100% necessary.

I didn't think of TEAC when I began searching for a dedicated CD player. My initial short list included Denon, Cambridge, Marantz, Onkyo. The Teac intrigued me, so I went for it. It is very...

You might not find a sectional, but check the antique malls. I've bought all of my furniture from antique places and junk stores - I've refinished and reupholstered a lot of stuff.
What I like about antiques is that they appreciate. Most furniture drops off in value, steeply, as soon as you take it home. The old stuff doesn't.
Don't worry too much about whether furniture matches. If you buy stuff that you like, it has an odd way of fitting together. Also, refinishing and upholstery aren't terribly difficult to learn and DIY. This might not be exactly what you want, but give it some thought.
If not, maybe take a look at www.shangrilafurnish.com. I've been tempted to order a few things from them. Either that, or I'll knock off a few Stickley reproductions when I (eventually) get my workshop in order. There are lots of plans for copying antique furniture out there, if DIY interests you.

Would add the possibility of garage sales and estate sales as being good places to look, too.
Every now and again you may come across something that has long been painted over or generally abused. These can be great projects to restore provided you don't spend much.
