DIY Headphones? - Page 2

I've used this in ICs and some other projects before.

Sennheiser HD650 replacement cable is cheap and good quality. It's dual entry, however, so beware.

Edit: Did you buy drivers form this link?

These are no good. Cancel your order if so. I'm so sorry I didn't check earlier.

No, I got them from here http://www.speakeraddict.com/servlet/the-66/1-1-fdsh-2%22-32-OHM/Detail

But they seem to be the same supplier. And i will try to cancel my order, but what makes you say theyre no good?

EDIT: I've seen a couple other people recommend these.

See how the back doesn't have any holes? Not good. You need the back wave to vent. I have a pair of drivers lying around somewhere, lemme see if they still work.

Ooooh... I cant find any other suppliers of these kind of tweeters though. Hmmm, I may just let them ship. I'm pretty new to all this (Im 16 and got bored/ didnt want to pay alot for headphones) and it would be good to experiment any how :). But please let me know if you have tweeters with holes.

Right below the pic on the eBay listing it says:

Quote:

THIS UNIT HAS THE "FRONT MAGNET" STYLE ON BOTH THE FRONT AND REAR AS IT IS A BIPOLE

the front picture is the one on the left with the silky smooth black cloth

I don't know if its true though.

I guess we'll find out :/. In the part that mav mentioned, it says that the picture on the left http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3000271/2007/5/9/sfirib32bpf.jpg is the front, so i assume that the right pic http://images.andale.com/f2/115/106/3000271/2007/5/9/sfirib32bpb.jpg is the back side...

i just realized they both have the same web address... but they're different pictures. ._. oh internet what now...

Well, yea, I guess we'll have to find out. Either way, I found that extra pair I mentioned. One driver looks a little rough around the edges, but I ran power through both and they both produce sound happily. I'll mount them with sticky tac in a couple demo-baffles I use for this sort of thing to make sure they are still matched and whatnot. In case they are 100% functional you can have these at cost of shipping to you. I can also supply you with some nice damping materials to get you on your feet. Some dense chamois for the rear. Really tames the vintage Yammies and such, but I find it makes the SFI's extremely well behaved (especially in combination with damping the fronts of the drivers with a low density felt) which when compensated by man handling the diaphragms with raw meaty power yields an extremely detailed presentation. Not the best for unamped applications, but the lower frequencies can be head rattling and astonishingly textured with the proper gear. You don't even need to eq, ime.

I have a headband that I scraped from a vintage Japanese no-name brand headphone found at a Goodwill. It'd be great for mounting those wood driver housings you plan to build, Panda. I've had it for years and never found a use for it, so I'll add this to the list:

Two 32ohm SFI drivers (need to double check still, and if the ones you bought are no good)

damping material

padded metal headband with Y-shaped yokes

Shipped to your door at cost of postage. That leaves a cable, cardas eutectic solder, leather pads, and the wood driver housings for you to acquire and then you've got a nice little DIY headphone kit. :D

Lmk.

They're hereeeee :D. And they are indeed vented on both the front and back

Good news! Glad to hear. Sorry for the scare, in that case, I just didn't want to see you waste your money on bunk drivers.

Edit: Yo. You should build something like the AKG K280 Parabolic. :p Check it:

Those are AKG K240 pleather pads, btw.

2 drivers in each ear? ._.

The dual-driver thing with SFIs? It's been tried, even by Smeggy Himself, and it's never been a success. Not to say you couldn't make it one, but the odds are against you.

Nice to see people still experimenting with the SFI drivers. Also check out StacyD's effort, posted coincidentally just a few days ago: http://doesitpew.blogspot.com/2011/03/diy-hifi-orthodynamic-portable.html
