Looking for a high-end amp/hybrid amp/DAC for the AKG K702's.

I am an analytical listener and like a nice neutral sound that recreates the origial recording as faithful and accurate as possible. I don't like too much bright or lush colouring of the music. Is it worth getting an individual amp and DAC converter or hybrid amp with a built in DAC converter or even a preamp?

My budget is $1500.

PS Audio GCHA sounds pretty good with K702

When i owned my 701 I used the Matrix M Stage with great resluts. I owned the Matrix and the PS audio GCHA and much preferred the overachieiving Matrix M Stage a great amp and for 270.00 delivered I recommend it over any other amp up till 700.00 and then the Concerto stil IMO is the best SS amp I have heard to date.

Check out the Burson HA-160 D with DAC. Excellent reviews and pairs perfectly with 702. I'm using the HA-160 w/o DAC as I use CD's as my source and do not need an outboard DAC. You might also consider the new Schiit Lyr hybrid tube amp, selling for $450 direct from Schiit. Owner Jason Stoddard claims the Lyr lifts his K701's to a level which competes with the finest headphones produced today. Check out the Lyr thread here on head-fi.
