24bit/96khz audio using ASIO4ALL

I'm having trouble playing these files using ASIO4ALL and Winamp. does ASIO4ALL support files higher than 16/44? anyone have a configuration that works for this?

Yes it does if your sound card supports that resolution (you see it by holding mouse over ouput device listed in Asio4All CP).

BTW, there's WDM/KS output plug-in you might want to try ... http://www.stevemonks.com/

my understanding was when using ASIO we're feeding the audio signal directly to the external dac/amp for processing. based on what you're saying, if i'm using my onboard soundcard's Coax out, and it only supports 16-bit, it's downgrading 24-bit to 16-bit before sending the audio out? i thought bit perfect/kernel streaming didn't process the audio at all.

Outputting your 24-bit audio as 16-bit is nothing to be concerned about at all.
