Now, we are talking price to performance ratio. There is no short cut in audio world. Good luck in your search.

Keep the RX 700 for casual listening: gaming or listen to compressed audio while working.

How do the JVC HARX500 compare to the RX700 in terms of sound quality for music and comfort?  I have seen in this thread and elsewhere many positive comments about the RX700 but very little, either positive or negative, about the RX500.  Is there a huge difference between those two?  And do you think the RX500 is also a great "value" choice?  The only JVC I have ever heard was the Flats-HAS160 and I actually think they are more than decent for under $20.  Would I be right in thinking that either the RX500 or RX700 would be a huge step up in sound quality to them?  Thanks.

I like my modded RX700 (yes, including the mid) more than stock T50RP and a bit slew of other headphones on my sig (and a bit more, which I tested on local meets and shop).

Indeed it would sound a bit hollow if you directly compare it to mid focused headphone but overall I still can't find a better relaxing headphone than it (HD650 feels too thick!).

My 2 cent...

I think I'm missing something

Where's JVC impedance?

I haven't found it

Also, how these headphones perform without an amp?

No need to be amped. They are easy to drive. wink.gif

Any comparisions with RX900?

When these JVCs were the flavour of the month, the RX700 were generally well liked. The RX900, though, didn't get much love. I still own a set of RX900 and can say they are bass-enriched fun, but the mids and above are timid and veiled. (FYI, I never heard the RX700s.)

biggrin.gif  I can't remember what I had posted but I think I took it out because I figured if you guys like them ya'll should enjoy them and I shouldn't rain on the parade.   I did think certain aspects were great for the price.

I've been giving my HARX900's a bit of headtime and I really don't like them all that much. Now they have a lot more bass than the HARX700 but not in terms of impact but rather in the form of body. When needed there's lots of impact but otherwise they aren't all bass heavy. The sound itself is kind of hazy with it's presentation and they have a peak in the treble that causes sibilance and the treble itself is pretty forward. The mids are a bit drowned out by the bass and treble but are still there. This headphone reminds of of the DT990 when it comes to it's presentation.

Int he end I still vastly prefer the HARX700 by a large margin. The HARX900 presentation is a V shape and I would recommend EQ'ing the treble down a few decibels.

Hi! I'm still pretty new here. I don't mean to hijack this thread (my question is still pretty relevant), but my own post didn't get too many responses. As a result, I am still unsure of what headphones to buy. I have so far picked out the Superflux 681, Panasonic RP-htf600, JVC HARX700, and the AKG K518 LE. I am open to any other suggestions. I mostly listen to rap, pop, r&b, and occasionally classical music. These will be used with my iPod, phone, and sometimes my computer. I do not have any amps. I do have a $40 limit and would prefer to buy from Amazon because I have a $35 gift card. I need to use this out of the house at track meets. I was going to get the Superflux but someone said that they are great, but not very portable. I am thankful for any help that can be provided.

Superflux? tongue.gifThose AKG are supposedly a bit bloated in the bass ^ My 700s aren't burned in yet so i will have to say HTF600, but those are semi-open so if you are talking about track meets? Probably better off with an IEM like Brainwavz Beta or a clip-on like KSC75 (keep in mind these are also open)
