OK so i know you probably get a whole bunch of people doing this but i just didn't know where to go next. For the last month i've been looking to upgrade from a pair of on ears i got from HMV for 40£. having done so much searching i think i know roughly what i want but every time i find something close it just never seems quite right for my needs...

Need :

Over ear

Closed

Powerful but not overwhelming bass

comfortable but not bothered about them being pillows

Would like:

Didn't look to plasticy

reasonabley noise isolation

fairly portable

price 50-75£

Thanks, (i hope i put this in the right place sorry if i didn't :D)

Sounds to me like the ATH M50 is right up your alley. I'm you must have seen it mentioned a couple times around here, so [assuming you have] is there anything about it you don't like?

The only issue I can see from your description is possibly the 'plastic' look. That's a pretty vague requirement, because I know I think of my M50's as durable, strong, and fairly well built, but I know some other people think it looks and feels like plastic, though I assure you it is not cheaply made.

You can look up numerous other threads on them if you want to know more

M50/HFI-580=head-fi gateway drugs, get one and prepare your wallet for a flogging. WELCOME TO HEAD-FI!!!!, alternatively if your looking for something that's smooth but still has some bass the HD555's are on amazon.com*or its European counterpart* for about 80 USD*40 EU* and are a lovely can foam mod them and burn in and BAM!

Try the Sony MDR-V6. Excellent closed headphone and you should be able to find one in a local electronics shop. Take your iPod and give it a listen at a store before you buy.

I say M50's or MDR-V6

Do what Uncle erik said. (take your ipod with you)

I say M50's, MDR-V6, Denon DN-HP700, and Koss Pro DJ100.

Though, You may have to spend a little more for the M50's or HP700's when considering your 75£ limit.

The reason I think MDR-V6 or Koss Pro DJ100 look more cheap and plastic than the M50 and HP700 is because the look of the Pads on V6 and DJ100's tick me off!!! It looks like the same pads used on headphones that are 10£!! But I guess Its alright since lots and lots of people enjoy them, they are all durable and amazing in sound quality with lots of bass.

The order from strongest bass impact to weakest is the following order:

MDR-V6, ATH-M50, HP700, DJ100.

~edit* and yea, the JVC HA-RX700 are good too.

Try the JVC HA-RX700 or 900. I just got the RX700 ($36 on Amazon) and I'm crazy about them. Excellent bass, mids and highs out of the box, without modding.

MDR-V6, Koss Pro DJ100, and M50 are all great choice, now it depends on your budget and availability in your area.

Well, If you were in America, you could get those M50's for much cheaper...

But don't worry, there are lots more other choices that match the M50's performance and are cheaper too!

I know i've probably dragged this out longer than usual, but i think i'm going with the MDR V6.

You sound like me. Believe me, sometimes procrastinating will keep you from just enjoying what you get. Get something and don't look back, but look towards the future. Your first headphone will usually let you know what you prefer in a BETTER headphone, whether it's bass, treble, soundstage, etc. It's usually safe to start with a bassy headphone, as that's usually where we ALL start.

Have these words in mind.

Good luck with your purchase.
