If we can only rip CD to 16bit/44.1KHZ flac, how do we get higher than 16bit/44.1KHZ file?

Maybe it is newbie question for many people here, since I am totally new to computer audio.

Anyway, I finally start my new project to rip all my collection into digital format (flac), I am using dBpoweramp CD Ripper to do the job for me.  No matter I put in CD, HDCD, XRCD, SACD and DVD-Audio, I am only end up getting 16bit/44.1KHZ  flac file.  If it is the best we can get, how do other people get the 24/92KHZ file? are 24/92KHZ file only available to purchase online store like Linn Record?  And why all people want to get a DAC which can read 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192 kHz at up to 24 Bits file?  Since the most we can get from CD are 16bit/44.1KHZ flac.

Am I missing something? Thanks!!

wav format allows you to rip to that. But I see it pointless unless getting the file from vinyl. And if you rip it to 32/192 or 32/98 the file size becomes 300mb for a 3-4minute song. I find that ridiculous. The file takes 1000% more space for a minute difference in SQ, not worth it to me unless you have multiple external hard drives composed of multi-teras each.

"CD quality" is only 16/44.1.  For high-res recordings, they are either recorded or re-mastered from the original analog tapes at a higher resolution.

SACD and DVD-A are better than 16/44.1 but have DRM.  As far as I know the only way to "rip" these at higher quality is to sample the analog output (similar to what you would do with vinyl)

Hmm... are there some options in CD Ripper for FLAC encoder you have not set?

Yes, maybe I am missing something, therefore I would like to do it the right method instead of redo the ripping later.  If I only have the normal DVD-rom and dBpoweramp CD Ripper, is it the best quality I can get is the CD layer of the HDCD, XRCD, SACD and DVD-Audio into 16bit/441.KHZ flac file?

SACD you can only rip the CD layer, unless you record from analogue output.

XRCD is simply a better mastering process, the audio is still 44/16.

HDCD encodes up to 20 bit, but by ripping the CD you keep the HDCD encoding, and can decode it on playback (for example using foobar2k).

DVD-Audio can be demuxed with this, as long as its not encrypted or watermarked, I believe. Decrypting it seems like it's a complicated process, google it.

Thanks for your quick answer.  I am wondering how do people get the higher 44/16 file?  Are they only availble online purchase?
