Zune HD or Cowon X7

If you had a choice between portable digital devices to get the best sound and functionality. What would you choose?

 

At the moment I have a iPod Touch 32 GB. I'm not big on apps, but I listen to a podcasts and of cause a lot of music.

 

At first I wanted to get a portable amp to get the most out of my ipod (Sound wise), but someone suggested that maybe I should rather spend money on a better source.

 

I normally use canalphones, but I just got a MS-Pro and would like to enjoy it at its best.

 

Your comments would be appreciated.

What is wrong or what do you feel you are missing with your Touch?

That's a good question. Very little to be honest. In fact I love my iPod.

 

Only improvement iPod can make is a seller inbuilt amp and DAC and a excellent equalizer. And a gain switch

 

I suppose I'm after sound excellence without loosing functionality. Mission impossible! :)

I guess it will depend on what your primary uses are going to be.  The Cowon J3 is another great option that I also was considering to give the iPods a break.  There's a large thread on it. 

 

The Touch is very versatile imo.  You can try a portable amp with LOD or connect them to powered speakers etc....Since you love it already, might as well try to get the most of it.

 

Listening to my Touch now via line-out connected to A5 speakers....beerchug.gif

HiFiman HM-601 or 602 offer very good soundquality with plenty of volume to drive many fullsize cans. Also S:Flo 2 is great sounding DAP with lineout function and through HP jack can drive many high impedance IEMs or headphones. I think X7 or Zune won't give high volume with Grado compared to above DAPs.
