Sounds like maybe the W4s and the E5 are not a good match?

I also run mine off of an E7 and see little or no difference between it and the HO on my Nano/ iPad.  I use it on the iPad because the resolution of the volume control (only 16 steps!) on the iPad is horrible.

you may be right, the Fiio E5 doesn't seem to do much to change the way the headphones sound. It does make it sound slightly louder but that's all. So it could the combination or my Fii0 got busted. WIsh someone can confirm with the Fiio E5

Maybe you should try listening to just the W4 for a couple days and report back and without the E5 amp. It may very well be that you are so used to the UM3X signature that the UM3X sounds normal to you while anything that deviates from it sounds a bit off.

You know that's what I'm going to do. Cause I really liked the sound signature of the UM3X unfortunately they are out of them at where I got my westone 4

Where did you purchase your Westone 4? It's possible the retailer carries some sort of satisfaction guarantee and will be willing to refund you or do an exchange for you at no cost.

If you honestly think you have a defective pair, I would personally try to exchange it as soon as possible. It's not worth having that nagging feeling in the back of your mind telling you that there's a possibility that yours are defective.

I have a 15 day return and I got them this Thursday. I'm going to try them for 2 days without the amp and then see what happens. I got them from B&H
