Replacing broken Westone 3s

Oh, the horror.  My beloved Westone 3s have bit the dust -- freak accidents and such.  Oh how I loved them.

Now, I need to replace.  I've owned some lower-end shures (SE210 I think), Sleek SA-6, and westone 3.  Loved the SA-6 but build quality failed me and was unable to get them replaced.  Westones were near perfect.  Love the balanced sound of both, punchy bass but not bass heavy by any means.  Didn't like the cables on either (short on SA-6 -- I'm 6'5", not detachable on W3).  Minor point for W3, but something to consider.

So, now I'm out of the loop.  I thought I had IEM monogomy.  I never even glanced at a TF10.

It looks like the UM3x is the replacement for the W3 -- is this correct?  Or, am I missing something.

To boot, my budget has shrunk (Ph.D. work, dontchaknow).  I'd really like to stick to $200.  I could probably go to $300 if I think it's warranted.

So, what do people think?  I'm sure there's new stuff out there.

Extra bonus points if we can figure out a way to do an in-line mic in a non-awkward way (the add ons are usually not ergonomically correct, the built-ins tend to be on crappy IEMs).

thanks in advance for the help.

I highly recommend the um3x. The fit is better than the w3, which is already good. I've seen a bunch of them on the for-sale section. I seen a pair go for $250. Or you can reshell your w3. I'm almost looking for any excuse to reshell mine

I used to have the westone 3's and switched to the UM3x - and I am glad I did.

The UM3x's fit is just so much more comfortable for me.  The sound is different though.  In my humble opinion, you get more mids (like vocals and guitar) but highs and lows aren't as pronounced.  For the music I listen to (alternative/rock) it was a good switch.

Hope this helps :)

An added bonus - the UM3x is made in USA vs. the westone 3's are made in china.

would be very interested to know how you get on, I'm in a similar boat.  Although my upgrade would be a bit more of a jump, I have a new pair of UM1's which I'm considering selling to fund some UM3x.  What genres are you listening to?

I also second reshelling....cheaper and you get the best fit. I just reshelled my broken SE530. It gives the satisfaction of buying new IEM. Total cost was $140 for me.
