Looking for perfect 2.0 setup for relatively small room

Hello,

I am looking for the perfect 2.0 speaker setup to compliment my relatively small room (sorry don't have dimensions). I want the absolutely best audio quality possible but I do not need speakers that are too loud or bassy either. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and only want the speakers for use when I'm not using my Beyerdynamic DT880s to play games or watch movies late at night. The speakers, like the DT880s, will be hooked up to my ASUS Xonar Essence ST. Essentially, I am looking for speakers that can sort of do it all in terms of movies, music, games, etc. while not being as large or loud as something like the Audioengine A5's. I know of three or four reputable brands (Audioengine, M-Audio, Klipsch, and Swan) but I only know their high end components which may be too powerful for such a small room. I'm not looking to shake the house and wake up my roomate as we both work extremely long hours and need our rest on the weekends.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Any other options so I can do a bit of independent research before dropping £150 on a set of speakers? They do sound like a really good option from an initial Google search though.

I use A2's from an Essence STX soundcard, and they are amazing. I have also got the DS1 stand things that Audioengine also sell. Brilliant sound, very classy looking, stupidly small.

Word of warning, you will need the stands, or at least something to stand them off the surface. I think it is probably something to do with the bass slot firing across the surface? If I dont use the stands the bass sounds forced and hollow, like it is reflecting off my desk. With the stands they are angled upwards, and I also have them pointing towards me. They sound fantastic, sound really full, and sound like they should be much larger! Incredible stereo imaging. Read the reviews. Just my +1
