Replacing a JRC 4560D op amp with an AD8066ARZ op amp on a CMOY PLEASE HELP.......

Thread Starter

I've purchased on ebay a Banzai V2 CMOY headphone amp which comes with a JRC 4560D IC op amp with an 8 pin mounting socket. After looking at forums to see what improvements I could make on it I've decided to change this op amp to an AD8066 dual 145 MHz FET SMT op amp, which I have purchased from RS Components in the UK, item number in their catalogue 497-0278.

This new op amp is  so so tiny when compared to the JRC one in the kit, How on earth am I going to get it onto the pcb. The mounting adapter for the JRC looks way too big for this tiny AD8066 op amp.

Can anyone help please.

Thanks Pars,
I have also found this AD8066 module

http://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/p/IC-Module-AD8066/IC+Module+AD8066

which I think would be much easier to just mount on the PCB.

I've ordered one already and am looking forward to getting it all together as I've not yet built the kit.

On a different subject, do you know of any top quality caps and resistors I could use to improve the ones in the kit.

The 2 caps in the kit are Elna 470mF 25 Volt capacitors, and the resistors included are 2 x 5K blue resistors, and 5 x 1K blue resistors.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Elna are usually pretty decent, especially as power supply caps, and "blue" resistors are most probably metal film. You "could" upgrade but the improvements would be marginal at best and I wouldn't bother.

Btw, what you bought is an opamp already mounted on a browndog adapter (or similar). You just plug it in your amp's dip8 socket. (or solder the adapter directly to the pcb without installing the socket)

^ to add to that, make sure that the "notch" on the opamp socket is on the pin 1 end (should be marked on the board), and that you put the adapter in the right way. Failure to do so could have you shopping again...
