Is the E5 amp worth $19 for me?

I was planning to purchase either Ultrasone HFI-580/DJ1's, Shure SRH-840's, or Koss Pro DJ100's and I'm primarily going to use my iPod Touch as my source.

Would it be worth it to purchase an E5 amp as well (as it was recommended for the Pro DJ100's)? I'm not too tight budget-wise, but I didn't want to spend more than $50 on an amp.

Thanks for any feedback you guys can provide.

It definitely wouldn't hurt. It's a great budget amp. You would also want to buy the FiiO L1 or L3 Line Out connector with it for a cleaner sound.

spend more and get an ibassoT3 and a LOD.

and/or buy the EQu and equalizer apps. probably better than buying that amp- imho.

I bought the filo E5 and then bought an ibasso a week or so later.

save up for a better amp, as you would be wanting more after that, but its a good start to experience portable amps

You can wait for the E11 to release in a few weeks, which is a massive upgrade to the E5 and E7's amps. It won't be more than $60 either.

As great as the E5 is for the small amount spent, it's more of a volume boost (w/bass boost), and not REALLY much of an amp.

Is there proof the E11 is going to be better than the E7 and cheaper? Please link me cause if so I'm going to return my E7 and buy an e11 then.

Fiio themselves have stated it.

The E7 uses the same amp portion as the E5, with beter opamps. The E11 uses a much stronger amp, and Fiio's rep James has stated that the amp also sounds better than the E7's internal amp. The reason it's cheaper is because it's a portable amp ONLY, as opposed to the E7 being a DAC and AMP.  Just look up the E11 thread here in the portable amp section.

Hm, interesting, maybe I'll hold off on the amp or amp/DAC. For only an amp I might consider the E11's if they turn out to be as good or better than an ibasso....I'm new to the whole amp/DAC things so I'm not sure what to look for in an amp. I've generally heard good things about both the E5's and the ibasso amps.

How useful is a DAC for a portable music player?

A DAC is useless on a portable music player, I believe. A DAC (in the Head-fi sense) is pretty much an external soundcard, and unless I'm completely wrong, really only used for computers. For most if not all of us, what we want for a PMP is one with the ability to feed a line out signal to an amp.

You are indeed correct M.L.E., there are very few amps that work as an external DAC for portable players namely the ipod.

The E11 will be a nice contender for portable amps on the same price range. I'm waiting for its release.
