Cypher Labs - Impressions thread - Page 26

Actually the review of the MKII was pretty good. For me, it's too big and it's backwards. The latter is the thing that I can't figure out. They are designing the Solo and MKII as a set, and they design it so that the MKII has its volume on the back when you are looking at your iPod. Talk about wasting designer advantage.

But I think it's probably a good amp. Pico Slim is my choice with the CLAS for portable use*.

(*with the ES5. For full size cans, i'm yet another Stepdance guy...)

People tend to prefer the Stepdance and SR71B for sound and ability to drive cans alone.

Well, if you use the CLAS and MkII and put it in the case that was designed for it, having the MkII volume control on the top side of the iPod works for me.  Besides, the case has two straps that flank the LOD so having the volume at the top makes a lot of sense..

cj3209, that's a good point. I wasn't thinking in terms of the case.

No, meaning they do better at the job...

does the CLAS work with apps? (tap tap etc)

Can anyone at Cypher Labs tell us if it will ever be possible to use the CLAS as a standalone DAC?  I would scoop one of these up an a heartbeat if I could use it with my computer as well as my ipod!

also, what woudl it take?  could the current CLAS be "upgraded" or firmware upgraded to make this happen?

Any sound from your iPod/pad will come out of the CLAS, so yes.

I very much doubt that this would happen as it in my understanding are 2 completely different methods of communication

Heeheeee, I think the only way for that to happen is for Ken to announce the release of CLAS V2 biggrin.gif

But if you want the Solo Amp bag, I can let that go.

Don't know whether this thread is still alive, but here goes:

iPhone 3GS > MOG > Adele's "21" > CLAS > Rx MK2 > Beyer DT1350 = Hoo Mama!

Nice set, I like the 1350 very much.
