Anyone have the new Oppo BDP-95?  They are shipping from Music Direct.  I am dying to know if they are as good as I think they are.

There are a lot of impressions from the AVS forum. I just ordered one, I should received it by this weekend or early next week.

Recieved the Oppo bdp 95 last week and I must say this is a very well made piece of gear. Packaging and supplied cables are way above the average consumer products. I purchased the 95 based on the excellent overall review of the bdp 83SE which I had never listened to. In a quest to eliminate 3 components a Roku, CA Dacmagic, CA dvd 99, I figured this would fit the bill nicely. Well it did but it didn't. it did it eliminate 2 components the Roku and the CA dvd 99. I am only speaking of audio performance via 2 channel audio with the 2 analog outs. All the burn in question people take note, it was burned in and did get better but ever so slightly and in blind A/B with a new unit depending on one's system it is a mute point. For me anyway, I say mute point based on where the 95 needs to get in order to best a modern stand alone DAC. There is a DAC that uses the same ESS chipset as the 95 from Wyred 4 Sound fyi. Everybody wants to know, me included, is this player for me. Well if you must have the latest greatest everything, Bluray playback performance, FLAC, WAV, SACD DNLA etc. etc. and want great build quality, the tray mechanism is very high end btw, with above average redbook cd performance and have $1000 burning a hole in your pocket then go for it. If you want all the same features and better audio performance and can live with 2 components get the bdp 93 and add a DAC down the road or live with the performance of the 93, still very good with the Cirrus chipset. If you need to know what gear I have now or have had or listened to, I would be happy to discuss. I am in no way saying this player is not worth a grand! I think you would be hard pressed to beat the build quality at twice the price, what I am saying is if you want the best 2 channel audio there may be better options. I don't watch movies 4, 5 or 6 hours a day but I do have music on that much.

Thanks for the reply.  Helped me make the final decision on the Wyred4Sound DAC2.

I looked long and hard at the W4S dac1, I didn't need the preamp or headphone option and prefer passive volume. I use the Goldpoint SA2 with the HT bypass, for the Elite reciever and Odyssey Audio Khartago SE. Let us know what you think of the W4S Dac.

At least 2 other guys on the Woo Amp thread have the WA22 like me and the W4S DAC2 and love it.

I agree with accurateaudio. My needs may be different from others here. I have a collection of CDs. I also want to play SACD, DVD, DVD-A and BDs. The 95 allows music streaming from an external HDD without the need for a USB to SPDIF device. I don't have an HT. The 95's 2-channel audio (SE or XLR) is good enough for me. Its not the best compared to some of the stand alone DACs at the same price but I get a lot for my money. If I wanted a stand alone DAC only, I would have gotten an Anedio D1.

Lots of great products out this year in the universal player and dac category! It's a buyers market I tell my wife. Another player to look at if one is looking at SACD and CD playback is the well reviewed Marantz SA8004. It has digital inputs for use as a dac, In my HT/2 channel system I decide to return the bdp 95 and go with the 93. Since I use the Dacmagic anyway the 93 will output HDMI into reciever and digital into the dac. BTW the Marantz uses the same chip as the Oppo bdp 93 for analog the Cirrus Logic, a little better executed I'm guessing in the Marantz???

What appeals to me is the 95's multi-channel RCA output. With a multi-channel analog preamp, like the Sony TA-P9000ES, you can enjoy multi-channel SACD's, as well as the Dolby stuff without the expense of a new digital preamp with HDMI.

I received my 95 yesterday. Watched Avatar in BD.

Very early impressions:

95 > new  Blue Jeans RCA cable > Sophia Electric tube amp > HE5. I have about 17 hours. Its starting to open up, specially the stage. So far I prefer to max the vol on the amp and use the 95's vol control. I noticed that if I set the 95's vol high (at 90 or 95) and use the amp's vol knob, the highs become more pronounce or dominate. This may change as the 95 burns in.

I'm streaming flac from an external HDD through USB.

Before I got the 95, my DAC was an iBasso D10. I know its unfair to compare a portable DAC/Amp to a desktop DAC. The 95 is a universal player with a dedicated DAC for 2-channel audio. The D10 held its own but the 95 is just better. Much better.
