Okay so bone stock I've heard that most people like the crack better slightly. However I know you can change out tubes and circuits, so which has the best potential upgraded? I plan to buy a tune amp and stick with it for a while. My current headphones are DT990's 600ohm and im looking to bring out their full potential before I decide to keep or sell. What's really important for me is sound stage, and of course to tame the treble!! That's most important. Thanks head fi

I got a chance to compare a DT880/600 on my Crack (w/Speedball upgrade) vs a friend's mkIII not too long ago. The very first impression was that the bottlehead offered a better soundstage and stronger mids.
Both probably have equal tube rolling options, although with the Crack you only have two instead of 4, but the big one is expensive so it kinda evens out.
My friend was running an additional tube buffer connected to his mkiii to tame the treble, whereas it was just fine coming out of the Bottlehead.
thanks a bunch!
