Sennheiser vice grip

Hello all.

I love Sennheiser. I have always been a Sennheiser fan - owned a pair of HD448's, HD515's, HD555's, and a HD202. I am seriously inquiring about a pair of HD800's, but since I've never actually tried them on I must ask: Do all Sennheisers clamp down so hard? I mean, a good seal is fine and dandy, but all the Audio-Technica's I've tried and my Sony's create a perfect seal without making my temples throb. I don't have a large head, so is it just me or does anyone else feel the same way?

I found the HD800 to clamp firmly but comfortably, relative to most headphones I've tried. It's loose enough to slide around on my head if I don't position the headband appropriately, but it was perfectly stable (even while I was headbanging) once the fit was dialed in.

I haven't tried any of the headphones you mention, but relative to other Sennheisers I've tried it feels lighter and clamps less than the HD595 and HD598. I don't know if the HD800 is literally lighter, but the weight is distributed well enough that, despite their huge size, they're comfortable and it was easy to forget I was wearing them.

(The only other Senns I've tried are some HD25-series phones, and the HD25-I II might be the clampiest headphones I own. Sennheiser might have a signature sound, but they don't have a signature fit.)

I found the HD600/650s the least comfortable headphones I've ever had on my head (too bad as I really liked their sound). The vice grip was just too much.

That said, the HD800s are THE MOST COMFORTABLE headphones I've had the pleasure of owning. I can wear them for hours and completely forget that they are even on. No vice grip...just pure comfort with incredible sound.  smile.gif

Absolutely.  I've had mine on for almost 4 hours tonight, honestly, and I can barely even tell.

I almost don't even feel them at all sometimes, but the beers might play a part in that.  biggrin.gif

The HD-800 is really comfortable, I've never had a problem with them. The HD-600 and HD-650 I had clamped a bit, but weren't any trouble once the pads broke in.

HD800 is not as clamping as HD650 and it's more comfortable to wear.  Its large pads seal around my ears perfectly.

I actually personally think that the HD800 clamp as hard as the HD600/650's do.  The difference is that the cups are much wider, thus the weight is distributed more evenly and away from the sensitive areas around your ears... making it much more comfortable to wear for longer periods.
