Multi-Custom In-Ear Monitor Review, Resource, Mfg List & Discussion (Check first post for review links & information) - Page 62

Very much looking forward to the review of the ASC T1 Lives. I had pretty much decided to go for the T1 regulars off the back of some great reviews on here that praised their bass (im a bit of a bass head) but have been told that the sound has been tweaked even further. I dont think I would use the live function of the them as such though the removeable cable may end up paying for the extra £50 before long anyway.

If you have time, could you take a picture of those in your ears, and let us know if you can sleep on the side with them?

I thought there weren't meant to be any differences in the audio of the T1 and T1 Live?

I can lay on my side with the T1 in my ears. Not actually tried sleeping with them in though. Surely that's a recipe for damaging the cable if you move about in your sleep?

I've slept with my Heir Audio A.4 and it hasn't been a problem, but then, that's the thing: subconsciously, I know I mustn't move, and I don't; but I end waking up after a few hours. Then I remove my CIEMs, replace them by earplugs, and get back to sleep on my side/belly. Still, removable cables make the experience less risky, that's for sure.

Which custom IEM is closest sound to LCD2 - punchy bass, detail, soundstage, spaciousness, I owned the LCD2 Rev2 although i love the sound but i have many fit issues and would like to know which IEM in the lonnng list is best for me. I listen to kpop, pop , rock , classical. I have the UM3X and although love the detail , i hated the upfront in your face vocals. I am looking for something that is less in your face , something like the LCD2 .. thanks alot

Without taking a picture, the lower part of the concha, where the microphone is protrudes a bit and laying on my side is not comfortable.  That area is thicker than others like the JH16, EM4, 5-way, aud-5X, and UERM but similar to but smaller than the NT-6 and i9pro.

I have never slept through the night with custom IEMs as I have always woke up and taken them out, although I haven't tried with silicone CIEMs.

And I thought the crossovers were different, but I am not 100% sure.  I know they use the same drivers.

I don't sleep with custom IEMs most of the time as I want to be able to hear things, but I hesitate to use something with a permanent cable for sleep.

Thanks.  My very initial and incomplete impressions are that it does have a very neutral presentation with musicality.

The SE 5-way is quite possibly the closest to the LCD-2 V1 I have, but better in just about every way.  The EM3 Pro is also similar, but isn't quite as good as the LCD-2, and is darker.  The rev2 is supposed to be brighter and quicker, which the 5-way is, but the EM4 also falls within that region.  Technically the 5-way is the best I have heard while the EM4 is not too far off and a good deal better than the EM3 Pro.  The Starkey SA-43 is also fairly close, but with a more laid back presentation than the LCD-2 v1 and technically similar to the EM4.  You really can't go wrong with any of those, but the 5-way is the ticket if you want to get the closest to the LCD-2 sound you can.

^I am tempted to send the EM3pro for a reshell with maybe an additional treble driver :P

@dogears anything wrong with EM3Pros treble? I thought they are brighter than the SM3s. Care to explain why?

Though I'm planning for my next CIEM purchase with the common options here in headfi like UM, UE and Westone, I can't help but be intrigued with the 5-Way and other CIEMs @average_joe have.

Heya kingice, I am using the EM3 with the Rockboxed Sansa Fuze with the treble setting on +6 - same with SM2. I dig the DBA-02 very much but wanted something with warmer mids. But don't rely too much on my impression as the EM3 is not custom made for me, I just sanded it to fit my ears but I guess its more crucial on the lows than the highs.

Why not try stage93's Stage6. Maybe you can arrange for a demo of their customs and let us know what you think biggrin.gif

Hmmm..Stage 93, a local company offering CIEM here in SG...maybe I'll pay them a visit this weekend.

Yeah I guess if you're coming from the DBA-02, it's a bit weird to switch to SM2/3 as they are very different sounding iems. For me, if I had the EM3Pros custom fit for me and are tuned that way then I won't do changes on them with another manufacturer. I am not really sure if they can retain the similar sound from the original. But it's up to you if you want to upgrade your EM3Pro to your liking. Last time I was also considering this with my SM3s but fortunately, I stick to the original sound of the iems so that I would have a sound basis on trying to compare to some of my prospect to audition headphones. Even my JH16s which started as a meh, became my very technical proficient iem which has strenghts not found on other iems.

Now if average_joe only acquires the 3 CIEMs: UM Miracle, UM Merlin and Westone ES5 and be compared to all the CIEMs here. Then that would close another CIEM deal for me. biggrin.gif
