That's quite a bit of money you spent there. Won a lottery? biggrin.gif

shhhhhh... my wallet might hear you...

no lottery..  would you believe i'm a full time volunteer and havent had an income in 7 years? but that also means i have nearly zero expenses.

all i can say is that without doing anything illegal, i am very good at manifesting money.. always have been.. it just shows up some way or another..  also cancelling my JH3A put $1800 in my pocket, so that helped ;-)

I also caught a break about a month ago when on a whim, i bought a pair of grado sr100's for $45 having no idea what they were worth.    on another whim i put them on the FS forum....

in like three days i sold them for over $700, so that helped too ;-)

hey dogears, you gonna get those Em4s now? I'm really keen to hear impressions on those. If they're any good, I think those would be the ones I'd finally go for! biggrin.gif

Yeah well, at this stage I'm not too bothered about price as long its not ridiculously high, i.e 2x the price of similar spec-ed models. Either way, i'm just barely halfway there with saving up for the customs so who knows...there might be an EM5 or something....dagnabbit....lol

As i still have problems with my left ear, but it seems to be subsiding ( Im really hoping for it - and the thread also has a good happy vibe so i hope it will rain on me too :) ) and my wife filled me with her stash of pills to offer some relief, so ill just post a pic of my beige Starkey:

It does have a little hiss with sensitive iems. The 801 with GAME card/hp-amp is quite another story, but it's 790$. To my ears it has a little bass boost, which might be a problem if your iems has too much ... Either HiFiMan DAP has a warm, musical sound and compares well to full size cd players of high standards.

I cant pass judgement on a dap i havnt heard i know, but im used to hifi gear from the US with a too much bass emphasis that i needed to calm down with my cd player.

And maybe i have my head stuck up my butt by not testing the HM-801, but its a US product and i really have my own reasons not to just go for this.

Teclast 51 is also a unit i've been looking up on, but it also has its issues that makes me wanna wait and look elsewhere, Teclast 59 is that a unit that heals some of the issues of the 51?

I need an amp or a dap with a decent amp section thats for sure, but as of now im still looking for the perfect companion..

ave_joe's 5driver DRM Earz is the most affordable right now (?). I'm waiting for his review on that one. That could upset my stance if ever biggrin.gif

First of all HiFiMan is a Chinese product/brand and not a US one. Secondly the bass boost in the 801 is subjectively and only about maybe 3dB's. (This is compared to my Squeezebox Touch, Harman Kardon HD970 cd player (with analog output stage by Danish LC Audio) and my Audio-GD Ref 7.1.) Anyway, if the Starkey iems sounds too dark or has too much bass to your ears, then it's probably not a good idea to get a HM-801, but a more lean and bright sounding DAP.

Hey joe, I have a question for you. Does it matter what type of LOD I get? I don't know much about it and there are some low profile ones for around $50 and some over $100. What are the differences, what do you recommend using for iphone->possibly arrow/pico slim->SA43? Thanks.
