Thank you for your honest and unbiased answer.  I agree a waterfall graph would help tell the story, but the so often left out (always left out in IEMs?) spread of the graph is rarely mentioned.
This universal looks really nice! Where did you get this photo, Joe? smily_headphones1.gif

LE3 sounds really nice although I have listened to Emil's custom unit (my ears are really "universal") and they reminded me of my Unique Melody custom 3-ways

Thanks Joe, I always admired Grzegorz's work and I have full respect for him.

piotrus, thank you for your wonderful explanation and answer. That was great and informative.

@kunlun

Problem is that I don't know if they

-are as hazy sounding

-have as a bloated bass

-have as non-existent sparkle in the highs

as a HD 650.

There is no possibility of testing the SE-5.

What I did find out is that low cost headphones tend to sound harsher in high-frequency range. Whether the same applies to haziness, I don't know.

I'm sorry you find my posts so threatening. I believe it's because you project your own strange ideas on to what I've written. I didn't write anything about aurisonics in my recent posts in this forum or the other ciems you mentioned. Your fears about wasting your money come entirely from you.

People should be aware of what they are buying. The SE5 has a stage monitor sound and has a dark character. That could be good or bad depending on what people want. That's what my ears say and the graph shows people who haven't heard it so they can make an informed decision.

My personal identity isn't caught up in whether people buy or like the same earphones I have or like. I would recommend that as a healthy attitude for you as well.

I would say that you won't find a sparkly treble in the se5. They are clear, but bloated bass is subjective and I think you may not like the fullness of the bass here if that is not the sound signature you are looking for.

Bloated is for me a kind of slow/fat, longer-than-it-should-be bass. I think it's due to too much mid/upperbass. The contrary would be a JH 13 enhanced-subbass-only sound, which is a short, fast, deep rumble.

Clear sounds good to me.

I just got the OK from Gregorz to send the impressions to SE.

And thank you for your help, much appreciated (!)

If I read the graph correctly, the 5-7khz area is completely down by -10 db? Wouldn't that mean that cymbals are muted?

You're welcome. Just keep in mind that your brain and ears will adjust. Half the high-end reviews on head-fi (regardless of brand) seem to start with, "I didn't like it at first and now I do". So, if you're not too picky about specifics of sound, then any high end ciem will be an enjoyable investment for you.

Interestingly enough subbass usually has longer decay than midbass.

Sorry, I misplaced the words. I meant this: a peak (like JH13) sounds less bloated and faster than a large hump like HD 650. It can't keep up well with fast music. I also don't like the combination of K 701 with long hump of upper mids, bass-lightness - it's a sort of artificial, lifeless sound to me.

I think I understand, kunlun. Apart from a few exceptions, the sound of these higher-tier ciems is so well integrated due to the bass not overshadowing the rest, non-existent treble harshness, etc

Yes, it does look nice and the pic came from Emil.

I do not find them threatening, just wrong and aggressive. I think you minsinform people and pointedly systematically disagree with some people.

First of all, you can not tell people about a custom when you have tried someone elses pair, even if you claim the fit is perfect this is physically impossible.

Besides, you now use graphs as an argument but thought that graphs were not reliable when they were saying your asg2 had major defects.

Please do not pretend to interpret what I feel or believe. Stick to what yiu know on this subject, the se5, which is not much.

You systematically discredit the arguments of people who dislike iems you support and vice versa, so do not put your identity issues on me.

Anybody has the right to dislike or criticize any iem I like. But you misinform people based on an invalid experience. You posts are disdainful of Joe's assessment which is much more valid than yours, because it is based on longer testing, with customs made to his ears, and, unlike what transpires in your arrogant tone, a much more solid experience of custom than yours. I will say no more and act like people smarter than I am, i.e. ignore you.

Ok, I ordered the SE-5. Time to wait... popcorn.gifTransparent-Black. Big thumbs up for the service of SE though - if it weren't for their informative mails I'd probably be too insecure to buy it. Lucky me lives in the EU so I'll probably get it pretty fast biggrin.gif

My SE5way monitors are in the courier now, I will receive them around Tuesday. Grzegorz is a fantastic man and works really fast. Just hope that your ears are big enough for SE5way. Also, you can find more information in the SE5way thread. I posted the pictures of my monitors there, they are transparent like Joe's.

Mimouille and Kunlun,

This is what I posted in in the SD3 thread which I think applies here too:

Here are a couple of tips:

1. When you're posting about other members instead of the item in the topic, it's time to stop and take a step back.

2. Put "IMO" (In My Opinion), "IME" (In My Experience) or something like it when you post. It is ALWAYS ONLY your opinion or your experience and neither is a declaration of absolute truth. When someone posts something that contradicts it, rather than immediately assume they are wrong, consider that there might be something you don't know or haven't experienced yet and it might be the possibility for you to learn something new.
