I'd chip in for that. This thread has obviously taken many hours for Joe to assemble, not to mention constant updates, answering inquiries, etc. I know first hand how hard it can be to stay on top of things but Joe never lets this thread get out of date.

I'd also add a proverbial "buck" to the sum. I somehow missed last joker's donation for Fitears.

LOL - close, but I mean really have a pair of iBuds extravagantly re-shelled to a very high standard. The more extravagant the better, just to increase the absurdity of wasting the effort and expense for such poor drive units!

We'd have to present them to Joe in an equally-extravagant gift box, too, and see if he thinks they sound "amazing", just because they look amazing! LOL evil_smiley.gif

(Just kidding, Joe!)

Uh, I am not sure what to say.  Thank you I guess wink.gif.  I will have to see if I still have my Sansa and Creative buds for comparison plus my 10 year old sony headphones.  Oh, and the Ear Power EP-10 Plus.  At least the review will be short, although I am looking forward to pairing stock iBuds, sorry, customized iBuds with the Anedio D1 and HifiMan 801!

OK, back to reality...any thoughts on the Dunu DC4?

It sounds like that DC4 is quite average in your reviews...and that other Chinese made CMs might be better?

With so many really great customs out there these days, "average" actually translates to "really good" most of the time. I feel that way about the Lear LCM-2B - not spectacular in any particular area, but my favorite sub $500 custom right now.

It's hard for any of these companies to blow away the competition, since there is so much of it. Sounds like maybe Heir Audio might be doing it with their 3.A and 4.A models considering the promotional prices but everyone else seems to be in a tight competition.

Hey tomscy2000 if there are any specific needs you require for your CIEM's we would be happy to help you with this i.e. driver specification and cabling.

just go to www.hearwavetechnology.com and submit a question and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

It came across that way?  I thought the review was positive as the DC4 is a very capable performer, especially considering the price.  Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Yes, that is the case for many CIEMs and the more you have the more "average" they sound.  And this is not to you project86 as I know you know this, but unless a CIEM is a very poor performer, they all have their own flavor and many people will prefer one flavor over another.  My goal is to help you determine the flavor.  For example, the DC4 has transparency that is above the competition while the Alclair Reference has clarity that is better, the Minerva is so organic with rich overtones, and the aud-5X has power and space with a somewhat similar bass and treble to the DC4, but a very different presentation.  I can't say I have a favorite as I enjoy certain aspects of them all!

Absolutely! I feel bad when I do a review, or people ask me via PM - "which is better - this $450 custom or that $520 custom?" And the answer is not as simple as they would like. It really does come down to the flavor, as you said. But I feel like I'm sounding deliberately vague or polite by saying the two models are roughly equal in quality with a different focus.

I get the same impression when I read your reviews - it's not that you are trying to be politically correct and not choose a winner..... it's just that all of them have good traits and average traits, but few have really poor traits enough to separate them from the group.
