Thank you for the answer. The biggest problem is I don't know what I need. All I know is: hm801 has warm and darken sound and headphones must be bright enough and be quite different between UM Merlin smily_headphones1.gif
Sometimes I want to put another ciem and gets fresh sounding for fast music.

What I think must be the first commercial 10 armature CIEM has been released. It's from Rhapsodio an simply named the SA10. They have a lot of other models from a single BA CIEM and a 6 ba and one dynamic CIEM.

I just received the FreqPhase JH13 last week. I used to own the original, and it was never my favorite - good, yes. I'd even say very good. But not the revolutionary product that many claimed it to be at the time. At least not in my opinion, compared to the Westone ES3X which sounded competitive with half the drivers.

 

This new JH13 is really impressing me though. It's clearly superior to the original on a technical level, so maybe there is something to this whole phase thing. Whatever the cause, the new JH13 is exceptionally good.

Great news~ Does it have any change in the sound signature? Or it's just more detailed, more spacious and better instrumental seperation? (which is what JH stated)

Hi Joe, for the difference between LS8 and JH16, there are several things that I'm concerned. I currently own JVC FX700 and I kind of want a bit more midrange. I mainly listen to rock/punk rock, a little hip pop and a little pop music.

 

1. When you mentioned that LS8 is more 3D than JH16, is it very apparent or only apparent in some specific moements?

2. as for the treble, I do like the treble for FX700, but I actually want a little more treble presence. I feel almost as if the bass of FX700 is overpowering the treble. Just wondering if JH16 can match the treble for FX700.

3. Does the bass enhancement for JH16 match FX700? I know LS8 has less bass than FX700, but alot less or a bit? It has more bass than JH13 right?

 

Here's is your comparison.

 

 

"Rooth LS8: Starting with the bass, the JH16 has more bass enhancement, bass depth and can reproduce more bass and sub-bass rumble than the LS8, but the LS8 is slightly warmer.  In some songs I felt the bass of the JH16 was a little too much, but I didn't feel the same way with the LS8, although the bass detail, texturing, speed, and punch are similar.  The midrange of the LS8 is slightly thinner yet smoother and more detailed to go with a more liquid treble vs. the more analytical sound of the JH16.  This allows the LS8 upper mid/treble peak, which is more substantial than that in the JH16 to still be primarily free of sibilance and offer a smoother presentation to go along with more clarity than the JH16.

 

The soundstage of the LS8 isn’t quite as wide but is more 3D which is not readily apparent in music such as trance, but it is in many of my acoustic tracks.  This can lead to instruments ending up in different places when A/Bing with the LS8 sounding more lifelike.  The treble of the LS8 extends further than that of the JH16 and is flatter in my ear.  Overall, the JH16 is more bass heavy and has more midrange richness to go with less upper midrange emphasis compared with the LS8 which has better clarity and treble extension and performance.  Both are punchy and lean toward the analytical side of things, however the LS8 is more on the analytical side."

Well, it's been a while since I owned the original model, but I think it's more or less the same sound sig overall. Just improved in those areas as stated by JH. Possibly because of the improved technicalities, I find it less abrasive to use for longer term listening. The original had the "Wow!" factor but it caused some fatigue after a short time. 

 

Obviously I'll have more to say about them when I've gotten to know them better.

Not everything plays well with the 801.  For example, I think there is a large negative effect with the IERM, but on the flip side the JH16 works very well with it.  Which brought me to thinking, the JH13 might be a good fit as it seemed to me like the 801 with GAME card was made for the JH16.  However, I am not sure what the new FreqPhase technology will do for the pairing.  


There are plenty of options if you want speed...Hidition, JHA, Rooth, and to an extent the AM4 pro.

 

It sounds like you should probably figure out what you truly want so you don't have a CIEM laying around that you don't want to listen to.

2) I never A/Bed the two, so I can't say for sure

3) I would guess the JH16 is close, but maybe doesn't have quite the bass, but then see #2.  I haven't heard the JH13.

 

Both the LS8 and JH16 should have more midrange, but the JH16 is a safer bet.  Maybe you should consider the 8.A.

Remember, it is difficult to sell a CIEM unlike a universal, so I would choose wisely.  

 

I would say the JH16 would be better for electronic while the 8.A is better with acoustic, although both do the other well.  The 8.A is hard to beat from a craftsmanship standpoint as the Wizard's work is exceptional and he has an amazing attention to detail.  He doesn't put artwork on his CIEMs, the CIEM is the art!

I can't answer these questions because I never made the comparison.  I did compare the LS8 demo with the real LS8, and I compared the LS8 with the 8.A.  I haven't heard the 1 plus 2, but my guess is the 1 plus 2 is closer to the 8.A than the LS8 based on what I know.

Well, 8.A. has a laid back treble. I prefer a forward treble like FX700. I don't mind the mids, but it shouldn't be laid back as much as FX700.

Between JH16 and LS8, how much bass is there in terms of percentage compared to FX700? I know you didn't hear FX700 for a long time, I just would like to know from what you remember.

Suppose FX700 or Monster Turbine Copper reaches 100% bass quantity. So JH16 would be 90% and LS8 would be around 70%?

It seems like I'm just making up the numbers lol.

But from what I read and researched, that's what I feel/think.

I thought you were looking for something in the US, but sure?  From my understanding, the 1plus2 really isn't a custom IEM, but a universal in a custom type enclosure.  I think Aurisonics will be bringing out the ASG-2, which will be the universal version of the AS-2.  Of course, I haven't yet heard the AS-2 or the 1plus2, so I don't know how the two would compare, but what I gathered from others is the 1plus2 is more bass heavy than the AS-2.

Your percentages might be right, although the Copper and FX700 bass is different in warmth, as is the LS8 and JH16.  If you think the 8.A isn't going to be quite bright enough, maybe the EM4 might be worth looking into.

1. and hows the treble (above 15k) of JH16 and LS8? Is LS8 much brighter than JH16 or just a bit brighter?

I feel that I would be satisfied by JH16's bass, and LS8's treble. But I'm skeptical about JH16's treble and LS8's bass. lol

That's what I'm stuck on deciding.

I kind of want FX700's treble (high peaks) to extend higher/pronounced.

I know hip pop and pop probably won't be very 3D. But not sure for Rock music. I can hear some 3D for FX700, maybe LS8 can make the 3D more apparent?

 

3. I know the resale of customs is low. For examples. JH16 is selling for $700-$800 on head-fi, considering it's $1150.

But AKG K3003 doesn't sell that well either. It's selling for around $1k. The new price is $1500 and $1200 on eBay.

 

I can get Rooth LS8 for $830 + 3% fees + $20 shipping, when I contacted Tomo. I guess it's a good deal.
